Those are interesting moves. I think the value for the Col trade might be ok but the Bedard trade is likely off.

Then again, he wouldn't be the first hyped prospect who didn't live up to expectations.

The McKinnen trade would need to come with a reasonable extension.

None of it would happen, but more then 3 firsts for someone who has never played. Would think they have to at least consider. Would probably make sense to give 2023 first to them instead

How do you figure that COL trade is fair? A 37yr old 2 middling 1st rd picks for a 27yr old top 5 player in the league? Really I’m curious how you rationalize that any team that had a MacKinnon type would do that? Would EDM do that for Draisitl? No. Would TOR do that for Matthews? No. Would FLA do that for Barkov? No. It’s not even remotely in the planet of fair.

Not like any of this would happen. But could add 2026 first as well. Team would be set

The value isn’t there for Colorado and Anaheim. People think of Bedard as having a value of a young Crosby. Mackinnon isn’t moving from Colorado for Malkin +. Rutta and Petry are both expensive options for FLA and MIN, who both need all the cap room they can get. Maybe the Philly trade but I think Briere and torts would rather play young players to fill the holes.

The 37yo is a PPG player and a HOFer. MacKinnon is great but 12MM a year is a lot. Ask Chi how that Toews contract aged. He is signed until he is 36. They don't all age like Malkin.

All if that said, I wouldn't do the trade. I just think it's fair. And yes, I do think Tor or Edm would make that trade if Matthews or Draisitl was 12MM until he was 36.

Malkin's had a fine career, no one's arguing what he's done in the past. But he's still 37 and already isn't the player he uses to be. MacKinnon on the other hand is in his prime. Colorado doesn't care if the deal looks rough 6 years from now, it looks fine now.

That’s just crazy. You’re talking about at a minimum of 5 years of 100pt performance for a 37yr old that could fall off a cliff in a year and 2 middling picks. You are kidding yourself if you think any team does that and that’s not even taking into account that the cap is going to go up significantly during the duration of that contract.

Again, the 37yo has been a PPG player pretty much his whole career. Yes, he could fall off. So could MacKinnon. So can everyone, regardless of age.

Two middling picks? You say that as if they are 4th rounders. One is 14 overall and the other is likely between 19 - 25 overall.

Yes, the cap will go up...probably. Unless there is another Covid or a recession or *insert economic problem that inhibits excess spending by the public*. Even if / when the cap goes up, 12MM is still a lot if MacKinnon falls off post 30.

The risk of Pit is that MacKinnon falls off post 30 and they are stuck with an unmovable contract.

The risk of Col is that MacKinnon stays great throughout his contract.

Both have risk, both could happen. It's a fair trade but not realistic due to emotional impact.

It’s not realistic on any level. You trying to convince yourself playing “well MacKinnon could fall off too” just goes to show you are more interested in not being wrong than being right. I mean god help any company you might run if you think trading away a top 5 player in the league at his absolute prime years for a 37yr old and 2 late 1st rd picks. It isn’t a fair trade no matter how you try to rationalize it.
