One season of Brenden Dillon for a third is within the realm of possibility. Adding Helge Grans isn't.

I really don't know much about the prospect but seems like Kings right side is log jammed. His number didn't jump out too much either.

Dillon is probably worth a second +, I don't think that trade is unreasonable.

Does Rasmussen have a ton of value? I know pick 9 is valuable but if Scheifele would extend there i feel the Wings have a big hole at 2C and probably want to be competitive.

Detroit isn't trading that for Scheifele. We would likely do that Pionk trade though.

Rasmussen is actually coming along nicely, a bit late and likely not going to be a big producer of points, but he plays a really solid game and is getting better. We don't really want to move him. That first is a huge no go.

Thats fair. I just think Detroit needs to make some big moves soon and without them they might be stuck behind Bruins, Tampoa, leafs and Panthers. How much longer can they stack top 15 picks?

Grans doesn't contribute to the logjam because he'll spend the next season in Ontario. But he's expected to be NHL quality.

I disagree that Dillon is worth a second, let alone a second plus. At his price point and age (33 at the beginning of the season), he doesn't have that much appeal. He's a fall-back that we would consider only if we can't re-sign Vladi Gavrikov for about the same money. (I think we're budgeting $4.25 million for him, but we could go higher.)

Rasmussen is
A) A fan favorite
B) One of the few gritty players on the team
C) Getting better with each year
D) Also the 9OA is just worth way too much. Not even worth to include it in the DeBrincat deal

Scheifle is
A) 30
B) a UFA next year
C) Extension or not, he's still old and will be at least 33 when this team is aiming for the cup.

Until Cossa arrives; but if we're trading for players I'd like to see players that'll be good for more than 5 years. Age hits everyone.

This is also what you ask a team that is ready to break into the playoffs. They're not. We still have major holes and a 30 year old center would fill up only a small hole.

I don't think there is any rush to the rebuild here. This is only the fourth draft Yzerman has been GM and the rebuild didn't really start until he got hold of the reigns. When he started we had a bunch of bad contracts and not much for prospects. This will be the seventh year we pick top 15, the first two we picked Rasmussen, who is a nice player like a said before but doesn't live up to his draft position, and Zadina who is basically a bust. You can say we have been rebuilding for like 6 years but really it's only been like 4 with Yzerman. I feel like he wants to build his team through the draft and that's likely what we are doing.

Yeah i'm sure that Yzerman cares that Copp and Scheifele are the best of friends. Bottom line you're not getting Rasmussen and the 9th overall pick for Scheifele the dude is 30 and his age doesn't fit our rebuild timeline.

Have you seen that draft? Believe it or not, Rasmussen would still go in the 10-15 range in a redraft, especially if you only redraft the first rounders (cuz let's face it, Oettinger and Jason Robertson had no business sniffing a 1st round selection at tbe time). It was a weak draft class that was full of complimentary players and not difference makers outside of the top 10ish in a redraft. That was a tough draft for all the teams to gauge talent for some reason.

MTL won't overpay for PLD just for fun. They'll beat any offer WPG get for him as a 1 year rental, and that's definitely not a top 10 pick in 2024.

Late 1st + decent prospect probably beats any offers.

I mean, he traded his Captain's good buddy. I don't think Yzerman cares about feelings.

Makes sense. I just thought its been 7 years since they were in the playoffs. Might be time to try and get back in. Even if Scheifele is older he would still be a huge boost.

I would somewhat agree. I would say about 11 of those first round picks really started to break out this year. In a redraft of the first round I would take him between 13-18. But yes it was definitely not a great draft class for the first round but alot of them are coming around now.

100%. He is also super versatile. Can play both center and wing, Top 6 or as a grinder on the 3rd-4th line. Rasmussen, Kasper, Mazur...We need more guys that plays with an edge. Not trade them away.

Understandable but I'd rather a team that's built for the playoffs than a team that's built to make the playoffs, y'know?
