Hawks are not doing that. While Myers after his bonus is cheap in actual money, why would the Hawks give away the cap space for free in hopes of maybe retaining and getting something of value? The other 2 left handed D are pure cap dumps to the Hawks who are extremely deep with LHD ready for NHL minutes where Dermott & Rathbone do nothing but eat cap and block roster spots for kids that need to start getting some to develop. The only assets in this trade for a rebuilding team at rock bottom are the picks being sent BY the Hawks...other then some hope you can retain on Myers and get something back (which the alternative is you can just take a bad contract and KNOW what you are getting in return for the cap space instead of hoping)

I can't wait for free agency. Then CHI can get to the cap floor no problem, and people can stop using that as an excuse to not pay for their cap dumps.

I would guess that at the draft the Hawks and the cap floor myth will stop being a thing with a couple moves for picks with contracts attached to them ala Zaitsev/Dickinson
