Despite the value being on MTL's side, MTL probably declines here. They don't want to have Huberdeau at $10.5m at the age of 37 in 2031 when they should be competitive
Campabee a aimé ceci.

Ah but with Huberdeau and PLD (assuming he winds up there) plus all their young players having another year of development they should be competitive a year from now. Drouin, Hoffman, Edmundson, Monahan and Byron will all be gone by then so cap space won't be an issue.

Calgary does it because Huberdeau hasn't been a good fit there plus if Lindholm doesn't extend they should probably rebuild. This sets things up for a possible rebuild and also brings in a couple players who should do well under Sutter. Anderson in particular should thrive under Sutter, if he can stay healthy he'd even be worth his cap hit. If he continues to have injury problems he's overpaid by about 1.5 million per year. Dvorak is what he is a fairly gritty bottom 6 center overpaid by about a million a year but Calgary can live with that for 2 years. In fact if they lose Lindholm and/or Backlund they might really need another center (depending on how Ruzicka and Zary do) for a year or two anyhow.

Anderson is doing just fine in the Habs system, back to back 20 goal seasons has played more than 2/3 of a season in back to back years. Huberdeau would be a great add at 7-8 mil for 3-5 years but at 10.5 for 8 years not so much. If you want the Habs to take Huberdeau you are going to have to lower your expected return. Some may disagree with me here but IMO iI would only give up Hoffman + Edmundson + the Flames 2025 1st. The value here comes in the form of the Flames getting back their 1st and and the cap space after the 2023-24 season.

That contract makes the habs have 0 interest in huberdeau period.

The 115 point season is a outlier hes never had a triple digit point total (or pace) outside that 1 season.

He isnt a goal scorer so its not like he is a 40-50 goal 90 point guy where the goals are atleast premium value.

The deal is only going to get worse at this pint its a negative value deal. Barring eating 4+ million per year the habs have no interest

The problem is that Huberdeau cost alot (10.5m) for the next 8 years. And add is age in equation, he will be 30 to 38 when is contract end. A guys like Dubois fit more because he's age around 24 to 26 and could be add into the core group. Huberdeau is to old on my opinion for this cost (money) maybe around 6 to 7m for 5/6 years that could be an idea but I would rather keep Anderson and use the 5m remaining (hubby contract vs Anderson) into another player to fill two different spot/need.

What could be an interesting addition to mtl could be any of the follow guys: Vilardi, kaliyev, Newhook as an Dach trade style or a mid older guys like Beauvillier or Mantha or even an veterans like Killhorn if he goes UFA this summer.
