Description
TRADE DETAILS

• MTL/WPG: This is the highest I would go, personally, to acquire Dubois. Anything above that, Habs wait for him to become a UFA. And if he signs somewhere else, then so be it.

• MTL/EDM: I went with Lavoie, because I get the feeling that many Oilers fans would rather keep Bourgeault (if I'm wrong, I'd have no problem switching one for the other). EDM's draft capital is already thin, and I didn't want to make it thinner. As a 6'4 center, Lavoie could be a decent addition to the roster from the Habs point of view.

• MTL/PIT: I went with Pittsburgh on this one, because I've seen a few ACGM suggesting the Penguins as a good destination for Allen. But with Primeau having to clear waivers next season, moving Allen anywhere would be my move. Conditionnal 3rd seems like a fair price at this point.

Why would Edmonton have any interest in acquiring Edmundson? The Oilers are set at LD and Edmundson is a lousy defender with chronic back issues. You're completely delusional if you think they'd offer up either of Lavoie/Bourgault.

Point taken.
No need to call me delusional. Went with Edmonton, as Edmundson's same was heavily rumored to be of interest for the Oilers at the deadline (although I completely overlooked their acquisition of Ekholm).

Edmundson probably stays in MTL, he needs to bounce back or he might just stay on the IR for much of the season as he finishes his last year. At least he is a respected veteran presence.

The WPG trade is pretty much bang on for what I would be comfortable with in trading for Dubois as well - it might not be enough but that's OK, it's a reasonable offer.

I don't think habs will trade Allen unless he sanctions it (bad business to trade players you extend before they even make it to the extension). I also wouldn't be that concerned over losing Primeau, he has yet to progress and he is behind Monty and Allen. There's a solid chance he clears, and if not that's OK habs have Dobes and I'm assuming they will sign Dichow as well.

I could get behind all that take on things.

I understand your point about Allen, and his attitude has been top-notch. I just wish Montembeault would have a clear starting role on the team for a year before his contract is up, and I'm still kinda curious to see exactly what we have in Primeau.

Fair enough.

Out of curiosity (really not trying to spark a debate) what do you expect Dubois will return at the deadline ? Seems to me like a package of a decent middle-six roster player (under contract, so flippable) + a good young prospect ala Kapanen + a mid 1st in what's considered a pretty good draft is at the very least in the 'rental' return, no ?

Kapanen needs to be changed to Beck and then you're in the ballpark.

Definitely a first in 2024 a prospect better than kapanen and a young asset/other pick plus cap if needed. This just doesn't have the prospect needed especially with probably 2 young piece via trade with contender. Honestly I'd want mesar and engstrom switched with kapanen. You welcome to say no but I've had some positive reception from habs agms saying that it's something they can live with.

I could stomach trading Engstrom (who I'm higher on than most), only because we have TONS of depth at LHD...but I could never convince myself to trade Mesar and a 1st on top of him for Dubois. I'll pass. wink

Beck would be a non-starter for me, unless we can hold on to our 1st. And I reckon you'd rather have the 1st. So I guess we'll both pass. smile

You'll pass doesn't change the fact that it's still a fair deal lol. Habs fans on here said it was doable so that may be more personal than a consensus

I'm afraid we won't know what's 'fair' until a deal happens in real life. That's the beauty of forums like this. wink

Well its a consensus fair deal here so it's either bang on or way off. I'd say it's closer to what I've said they you that's for sure

This obviously means a lot more to you than me...so you win. I don't know a single soul that would be ready to trade MTL's 1st in 2024 (which is what you aimed for in your previous post)...

...let alone with two of our Top-10 prospects. But I'm sure Kent Hughes will reluctantly agree to pay that price when he'll see that two other ACGM agreed with you on your proposal (completely disregarding the fact that three of us said otherwise). Good talk.

Question: Who are you planning to at at 3C when Monahan goes out with an injury again? Dach? Dach deserves to be in the top 6. Dvorak should not be traded IMO. WPG doesn't want him anyway!

I had mesar the 2023 first engstrom and cap in Hoffman I think you're mistaken

Nah, Dach stays Top-6 for sure. I would bump Evans up to 3C. Plus, results aren't that important for me yet, as long as we see improvements individually and collectively. Eventually, this should be Beck or Kidney's role. But for now, Evans is an appropriate option for me.
