Buffalo has enough centers who can't win face-offs and aren't great defensively, they don't need another one. nearly 8 million for a 3C is pretty poor cap management when they could use that cap to fill an actual need like RD or in goal.

hard no on kuznetsov. I dont think hes as bad as the underlying numbers suggest he is but he is in no way a fit for the Sabres. Especially since the team now has far fewer ummm... "skiiers" after moving Reinhart and Eichel.

I thought we traded eichel because he was present at January 6th.

How and why would the Oilers? Spend over $1,700,000 more getting worse, and while having Tom Wilson like Raphael Lavoie on the way.

Edmonton says GFY. They refused to trade Broberg for Chychrun, they sure as hell aren't trading him + Yamamoto for Tom Wilson.

(You do realize that Yamamoto scores as much as Wilson for about half the price, right? And doesn't take nearly as many penalties.)

Yamamoto is monumentally better than Wilson. Wilson puts up higher numbers without the crutch of having two mutants on his team.

You don't make sense. But in any case, I didn't declare one player "better" than the other.

It's a silly ask for a mediocre player. Wilson isn't exceptional at any part of the game except hitting and taking penalties. The hitting is cool, taking penalties isn't.

So no thanks.

If he was so much better he'd be getting better results. But he isn't.

Wilson is scoring at a 27-goal pace and is also on pace for roughly 50 points over an 82 game span after coming back from ACL surgery. He also is a physical force and a fantastic two way player. Yamamoto does not bring any of those things. He is monumentally better than Yamamoto.

You're including PP points. He wouldn't be on Edmonton's PP so that's irrelevant.

At 5v5 over the past 2 seasons, Wilson has scored 0.75 goals/60. Yamamoto has scored 0.70 goals/60. That's not substantially different.

Yamamoto is also very physical for a small player, but of course nowhere near as physical as Wilson is. But all of Wilson's physicality doesn't lead to more scoring. And Yamamoto is around the net more often than Wilson, leading to more expected goals, more scoring chances and more high danger corsi.

Wilson v Yamamoto, individual

And you're wrong about Wilson's defensive ability too. His numbers are just okay (but no better than Yamamoto's) and then you see that he has 3x more offensive zone starts than defensive zone starts! Talk about sheltering.

Wilson v Yamamoto, on ice

That said, if their cap hits were equal I'd take Wilson over Yamamoto. But I can't justify the $2.5M extra cap hit just for increased physicality (you can get physicality for a LOT less), let alone the addition of Broberg, who is the most valuable player of the three.

It just doesn't add up.

I should also mention PIM's. Wilson spends a lot of time in the penalty box, 50% more than Evander Kane even. That's a serious negative.
