How do you watch two games of Levi and decide that you want to give away assets for a goalie having a disaster of a season. I have no doubt that Demko will bounce back, but this is a crazy price for a player in Demko's circumstance

Your comment is the definition of irony lol... I love levi and maybe his biggest believer but as you said he has a 2 game sample size. Not willing to bet an entire season on him and one of upl or comrie

So the answer is to give away assets for a goalie having a season no better than UPLs? Id much rather the Sabres go out and sign a veteran goalie, trade away Comrie or bury him and run Levi-UPL-Veteran. That price would be a lot for Demko if he was playing well

Think you given up way too much for two years of Demko. There are good UFA or even RFA goalies this summer which are don't cost so much in assets to obtain.

Canucks pass. None of that fits their criteria for what they want in return for Demko apart from the 1st rounder. It would take a huge overpay to get Demko, this isn’t it

I think the fact that both fan bases believe this is an over/under pay leads me to believe this is somewhat close to fair value

Your comments lead me to believe you haven't watched Demko and are simply looking at his GAA and SV%... these are bad takes. I can't speak for Buffalo's need for Demko but this price isn't it. Demko, healthy, is in the Vezina conversation every year.

GSAx is effectively equal to UPLs... and GSAx is by far the best metric we have in hockey for goalies

watching means nothing when we have quantitive stats that remove all bias and are strictly data points on a consistent scale. Using the eye test is just saying that you like a player. You have no data or quantities to justify your beliefs, solely bias

In instances like Demko's season, the eye test means everything and the analytics mean nothing. The analytics remove all context around whats happened through this year. He was injured at the beginning of the season and was playing through it. He is now healthy again. The eye test confirms that in the way he moves and resets after going down to make a save. His lateral movements are cleaner and stronger than at the beginning of the season and he is now making saves that he didnt have the health/strength to make before. Its not about bias, its about context and knowledge of the player beyond numbers. Again, just say "hey my opinion on this player is based on numbers and not having watched him play".

Where is the emotion (you're just saying things for the sake of saying things now)? If your ability to use analytics is the same as your reading comprehension then that explains a lot here haha. "Objective stats" which fail to utilize real world context are better than watching a player actually play, according to you.

You just made claims with no data. You can talk about his injury or whatever you want, but those are all factors that arent gonna go away. He also hasnt been better since returning lol, his analytics did not improve since he returned. Anyways I am done with this. There is no argument I could make, objective or not, that could convince you. You are very unreasonable

Since when is making objective statements (ie. he was hurt, now he is not hurt) being emotional? You just haven't been making sense. All you had to do was say, "I havent watched this guy play at all but this is what the analytics say" instead of claiming to know how good/bad he is based on numbers that don't provide any context haha. Your age is showing.

This is the first Demko trade I've ever seen that I think VAN would accept, but I think this is foolish for Buffalo, Levi looks like a stud and UPL still has potential, no sense in giving up a Top 15 pick in a stacked draft class when you can just wait a year.

It probably is fair value, but the Canucks would need a big overpay to move Demko. Fair value wouldn’t do it. Olofsson has little to no value for the Canucks, we already have too many wingers. UPL doesn’t add much but can be included to give us a goalie back. The Canucks ask likely starts with the 2023 1st and one of Savoie/Quinn/Peterka, as well as another prospect, seeing as their reported asking price was a 1st + blue chip prospect + Raty-level prospect

Demko has had a bad season, but his first 15 games where he was really bad he was playing injured. The Canucks also have the worst PK% in 40 years and one of the worst d corps in the NHL, so it’s not all his fault. He’s been great since returning apart from his last 3 games

Last season at 5v5 Demko was 3rd in GSAx, 3rd in 5v5 Save %, and 1st in 5v5 GSAA. In 2020/21, he was 8th in 5v5 GSAx. 2020/21 and 2021/22 combined he was 2nd in 5v5 GSAx (behind Shesterkin) and 2nd in 5v5 GSAA (behind Saros).

He’s still a high end goalie, and if he was on a team that could actually defend and kill penalties, he’d likely be a consistent Vezina candidate

Context? GSAx is the definition of context. It takes the quality of every shot that a goalie faces compared to the expected value (percent chance it scores on a league average goalie's expected chance of making that save). This isnt save percentage or GSAx my guy

I 10000% believe that he will bounce back and be a top 5, maybe top 3 goalie next season. I love him. My point was just that its not worth the risk for Buffalo to pay that price right now.

You're right, I forgot that GSAx take the goalie's health and mobility into account. My apologies, I concede my point.

You act if a goalie being injured one season does not impact their future trade value. Again, i am not saying Demko is bad. Im saying he played bad and was hurt, so his value does not warrant this, especially to a team like Buffalo

You're right, his value is likely at an all time low which is why it makes no sense for the Canucks to trade him. He has more value to the team than in a trade so they won't be looking to trade him
