Description
Flyers trade clears the cap space to add a legit #1 goalie. Yes Gibson hasn't had the best stats the last few years but he has also been stuck on one of the worst teams in the league over that time. He has wanted out for years now.

Gibson says no? The guy has wanted out for years. I think he'd go anywhere that might actually make the playoffs. And getting a 1st for a goalie with his stats/contract would be an ANA W.

I feel like that Norris trade does not benefit Ottawa. There are better ways to clear salary than sending out a 1c caliber player for a future probably 20s-range first, Morgan Frost, and Jack Roslovic. If that's the going rate for a Josh Norris, Columbus cuts out the middle man and offers this year's LAK first, Jack Roslovic, and an equivalent player to Frost at a different position (need a winger? Chinakhov. Goalie? Tarasov. Defenseman? Got quite a few of those... just not a center)

Who said CBJ was talking to OTT? If CBJ gets Bedard, why would they go after another C? Also, CBJ doesn't have a Morgan Frost.

John Gibson doesn't waive for Ottawa.

And fat chance in hell of Alex DeBrincat taking 8 x $8,000,000 in Ottawa when he wants closer to $9,000,000 per.

When no other team is willing to trade for you, maybe you change your mind. Unless he likes being stuck on a **** team for the rest of his contract.

Who would pay a non ppg guy $9 mil? Roope Hintz got $8.45 and is a better, more valuable piece. Comparables are not $9 mil

Ottawa is not trading Josh Norris for Morgan Frost, let alone adding a 2nd.

If you want Norris, start with your 2023 1st and and then build a package from there.

The Sens have been fine without Norris except that their goalies are really bad. Frost is a fine replacement for Norris plus you get, what's likely, a mid round first, decent middle 6 player and cap space to acquire that legit #1 goalie to try and make a run. Or keep Norris and try signing another mediocre goalie for next year and be in the same spot! I like the Sens but without a goalie, they aren't making any noise.

Norris is a part of our core group and is borderline untouchable.

If you want him, you'll need to offer something really special.

This ain't it.

Try offering us Carter Hart then and see where it goes.

You would at least tank faster for a Top 5 pick.

no team is going to pay a 1st for gibson end of story, OTT is not trading Norris, if my miracle they win 1st OA if they finish in the bottom 11, they will trade Cat and move Norris to the wing.

Why would the Flyers trade a 24 year old franchise goalie?

considering they finished last and 2nd to last and got 4th OA both years (tho one year it was good they got 4th, the year COL had their first) it would be fitting if OTT won 1st or 2nd

philly needs a complete rebuild big time, if they judge Hart will not be in his prime when then exit the rebuild, they should trade him to get assets to help the rebuild, go scorched earth like OTT did, trade everyone of value to get as much picks and prospect they can and develop them right.

i could see OTT being VERY interested in Konecny after they trade Cat

To fill a much bigger need...someone who can stop a puck at the NHL level.

We are rebuilding but Hart will not be out of his prime. He's 24 and goalies primes are late 20's to early 30's.

You show me a news article where it says Gibson wants out, I'll wait.

He intentionally torpedoed trade talks with Toronto because he didn't want to go to canada literally this year

The article that came out about him asking for a trade last season was put out by a pundit, it was refuted by Gibson and his Agent immediately.

By the same logic that the Ducks should get rid of Gibson, you should get rid of Hart, you'll be wasting his prime and will tank his value killing his stats behind a rebuilding team.

We (Anaheim) are supposed to be on the upswing here pretty soon, frankly we could bounce pretty hard off the bottom with a couple smart signings this off season. Gibson still has plenty in the tank, he is our unchallenged #1 right now, and he likes Southern California.

I'm sorry to tell you but ANA is not on the upswing. Comparing a 29 year old goalie to a 24 year old goalie and claiming both goalies primes will be wasted is insane. Gibson has like 3-4 years of prime left, which will be spent still in a rebuild, where Hart has his entire prime, which will start in like 3 years.

We've been in the rebuild for a few years already, so yeah, we should be on the upswing here soon. Phillidelphia hasn't started the rebuild until just now. 5 years from now and Hart will be 29 and look at that, most of his prime will have been wasted. It's the same story, and I, for one, will be happy to see the eternal offseason goalie trade swapping from Gibson to Hart next season.
