Wings have no reason to ruin their future cap by signing DeBrincat this summer. They have their good RFAs to be signed in next couple of years.
Wings or no team should make the mistake that the Flames made......acquire a guy , then overpay him with his extension in order to justify the trade in the first place (Huberdeau)

I mean paying more than what Ottawa paid for a player who's recessed would be real stupid.
Not to mention, this would be a win-now trade for a team who'll likely be gunning for a wildcard spot next season and nothing else.
To add on, the '24 UFA class is real good, so.

I wouldn't make this trade either because I agree that DeBrincat has regressed and this is too much for an upcoming UFA. I also don't see Detroit trading Berggren but how does adding DeBrincat put us in a win now mode? I think Larkin and Copp are in Detroit's future plans and both are older than DeBrincat.

It's a win now move since it gets rid of a 1st in this year's draft, a good middle 6 forward, a second, and a depth forward. Three future assets for an asset that, although isn't old, means we're now starting to sell the future for the upcoming.
