That Washington trade makes me uncomfortable just because depending on where that pick lands but I really like chytil and don't want him to be moved

I’d rather just offer sheet Chytil and trade Kuzy for picks. But maybe there can be a trade where Kuzy for Chytil can happen.

This is a very interesting idea...What realistic contract would Chytil get?

maybe not for detroit, but there is bound to be some team in the NHL that would take it. My $$ would be on Buffalo or another up and coming team with plenty of cap space. Worst case scenario, NYR buy him out and gain 200k in cap space this coming year. Worry about it later when the cap goes up.



Honestly I love this idea. Kuznetsov essentially gives us a 7 year older Chytil, but at a reasonable cap hit and returning us a mid 1st in a good draft year. I do see some alterations needed as IDK if WSH will give up the 1st AND retention-- maybe upgrading the NYR 2nd rounder to the 1st they retain (still a jump in 10-15 spots) and/or upgrading Robertson to Jones (if both maybe an additional mid round pick coming from WSH). Not too keen on the Tarasenko deal but could learn to get over it I'm sure. Very defensively deficient 2nd line tho, hopefully the offense supersedes it.

If he only had a season or 2 I'd might take it.

Yeah totally agree.

with the contract they would end up giving Chytil WSH would be adding money and trading down from ~12oa and their highest pick in a decade in a stacked draft to ~55oa while also probably giving up the worse player next year. Don't get me wrong I'd take the next 5 years of Chytil over the next 2 years of Kuzy any day, but the Caps are worried about next year and next year only. I could see some sort of Chytil/Kuzy deal but this one just has the Caps giving up way too much.

Chytil, Goodrow, NYR 23 2nd for Kuzy. Money could work for NYR, they're getting out of one of the worst contracts in the league in Goodrow, and they get the better player right now.

Soooo... uphill Chytil for downhill old name? Pass.
