First, I don't love this trade. Rasmussen has improved every season, and he still has a lot of untapped potential. He has size, and he is good at the dot plus good defensively. He can play up and down the lineup. Chytil seems to be exactly as he is: a high end 3rd line center.

I really don't know why Detroit would make this trade, as Rasmussen will be far more valuable as a big bodied multi role plug than a 3rd line center (assuming Kasper is the 2C).

Think there is the basis of something here, despite protests on both sides. Chytil's likely to get 4M+. Think the Rangers will have to give up one of Chytil, Laf, Kakko, or Miller and Goodrow to fit contracts next year.

Rasmussen as big, defensive 3C, and Veleno as 4th line center is not awful at all. Could also see value from Red Wings end, looking at Chytil to try to unlock Zadina and team with Kubalik. He's stepped up his game this year.

Thank you for being reasonable. I still don't like the trade from either team's perspective. Rasmussen is a proven top 9 plug good for 40ish points a season (possibly more), while Chytil is a little better offensively but is sheltered on tbe 3rd line and the hope is he can be a 2C. Rasmussen is a safe bet, Chytil is a higher ceiling offensively; I really don't know who wins this trade, and the only reason I see this happening is the Rangers needing cap and the Wings betting on potential. It really could be a lose-lose trade honestly.

They just aren't going to sign them to 8 year deals. You can get them all on 3-4 year deals rn no problem.

Start an armchair GM for next year with 83.5m cap, sign them all to 4mx3-4 years (roughly the avg of what they'll all cost) and bring up cuylle, othmann, garand. You have just over 2m in cap space to potentially resign Kane with (which will only work if he wants to stay with NYR on a cheap deal, i.e. Bergeron, Krejci). Worst case scenario, you resign Motte to a 1 year deal, and break up the kid line.

Hear ya...been doing them. Roster is similar to where we were before Tarasenko, Kane, and Mikkola were added (less of a contender). Would actually like to see Tarasenko and Mikkola back. Mikkola fits what Gallant wants more than Jones does (not a knock on Jones ability, more his fit).
