Why not? Don't watch a ton of chicago games but sounds like he's a solid two-way legit top-four defenseman, which is exactly what the leafs need with Muzzin out long term

Personally I like him. He just isn't a reliable top-six forward yet which the leafs really could use this season. The Leafs also don't have that many attractive chips for a rebuilding team

Trouba contract is going to be a huge long-term problem for the rangers. Devils trade gives them significant cap flexibility and a couple decent players. montreal trade is just for fun

Strome has considerably higher upside than kerfoot, especially down the middle. I agree that sandin deserves a spot, but I don't think a dermott-sandin pairing is going to work out very well (hopefully I'm wrong) and if that pairing is a liability, the leafs are going to have to add some d depth. Bogosian was quietly an important part of the team last year and I don't know if the leafs have enough sandpaper on the back end with him gone

Good luck adding a top line winger and and a strong shutdown 3c for a combined 5 mil on the UFA market. The leafs manage to fill two key holes in their lineup in this deal precisely because Columbus retains significant salary, and that isn't going to be cheap. I could see Domi having a major bounceback season playing with stronger linemates and not having to be "the guy"
