Description
Trading Hronek and not trying to resign Bertuzzi then trading him really showed me that Yzerman doesn't see this team being too competitive yet and still wants to build through the draft.

Team isn't any better but used our cap space to gain assets and try to acquire players who might have something to prove from being dumped and being in their contract years.

I know this likely doesn't happen as we don't really take on dumps but the free agent market is really weak this year. Any of the players that would be worth while signing will probably be seeking deals with competitors or want more than I would want to give them. The lower teir players will likely get over paid with the lack of higher end talent available.

Hoping at least one of Myers, Pearson or Bailey regain some form and become a positive trade asset at the deadline.

Trade Perron, Kubalik and Fabbri if possible for best returns. Wouldn't mind re-signing Perron for cheap if he was willing to take a cheap deal to stay.

Don't even want to try and pick players to draft as I wouldn't be upset with just about anyone between 5-18 and alot of people have most of those players all mixed within those picks.

    for the 2 nucks deals

Myers will be able to go for F/C because, as you explained, he will only be owed 1m in salary and also a trade at the draft is before the bonus has been paid out

Pearson is probably done, he got a bad infection in his hand and will probably LITRetire

Yeah I wasn't sure about Pearson, that's why I stated if he was healthy to play.

Myers deal at the draft to before the bonus so Vancouver would save $4M in cash as well as 5M in cap space. Pretty good deal to just move down 40 picks in my opinion. They could choose to just throw $5M in the drain, I know they aren't a poor team but that's still a significant amount of money. Literally pays for Demko and then some this year.

You still think Veleno can be more than a depth player? I don't think he can really produce at more than a fourth liner level, he's not great at faceoffs, alright defensively from what I saw. Obviously still room to grow but I think we could find better options for the future.

Veleno is one of the few players granted exceptional status in juniors. Regardless of what he has accomplished thus far, there is something there. Not saying he is going to go Tage Thompson mode, but the improvement has been visible. If he becomes a 3C or follows Ras into middle 6 plug, he has the tools to be valuable. Ras has made himself invaluable to Detroit when numerous people wanted him gone the previous several years.

My comment was more in regards to the trade itself. Carter does nothing to benefit the team long term. Shipping out a depth guy with potential to acquire a declining player that benefits another team seems counterproductive. Why not sign Veleno to a bridge 2-3 year deal (similar to Ras and Zadina) and see if the increases keep coming, or use him as a piece (I HATE IT BUT CHANGE OF SCENERY) for another need.

I think the Myers deal would actually be attractive to a team like Arizona. 6 mil cap hit, 1 mil actual salary. So I don't see him getting you a pick or any retention from Van. On top of that whoever acquires him can move him at the deadline for a pick.

Carter gets bought out in this scenario. He doesn't play a game with Detroit at all. I know he was granted exceptional status but that hasn't always translated. Really only him and Sean Day haven't turned into stars. I'm not opposed to hanging on to him for a little longer but I just don't see it yet. It might turn out to be better for him to do to a different team, maybe he could flourish there.

Well Arizona is probably good, 56M in cap for next season and a bunch of players to resign. Maybe Anaheim but I doubt anyone pays anything for him and also considering the financial savings this deal has for Vancouver it's a pretty no brainer.

Big no to that Carter trade. Veleno could be a perfect 3rd-4th line center for us going forward. Reliable, physical and is almost as fast as Larkin. There are every year so many ”busts” that have proven people wrong: Vilardi, Hayton, Tippet, Rasmussen, Tolvanen…I could list so many guys here from JUST this season. Wings have so many candidates for that category and Veleno is one of them.

I like the idea of utilizing the Cap space, but rebuilding teams have all the leverage here (because they have the Cap space). I would not just take on a bad contract for pennies. It would have to be a overpay from the other team. Why accuire Ceci when Chiarot needs icetime?

I'm sure they would be okay with the Carter trade without Veleno going the other way and maybe just a fringe prospect.
Ceci is better than people are giving him credit for. He's playing top pairing minutes but isn't a top pairing guy, he's actually a pretty reliable defender. I think he would be a better partner for Edvinsson that Chiarot. Chiarot will get in the line up as they will have line up changes and injuries. It's not like this line up is set in stone, it will change nightly. Most of those dumps I acquired are still alright players and if healthy could still play decently. I would kind of be banking on them to inflate their bake add most are in contract years. Also none of those cap hits are large like Monahan and his post surgery unknowns where the biggest question mark, just using him as an example of a dump that got a good pick. Faksa is still useful as a fourth line centre, just overpaid and Dallas could use some space. Myers fills a need for us and is still a useful player. Bailey and Pearson (if healthy) could still have a bit more to give and getting a second and third there is probably on par. I know most people think we are past that stage but the free agency class is weak this year and who knows where this team really is after losing bertuzzi and hronek.

I agree on almost everything you said. Wings have a lot of Cap space and they should utilize it. If we can get a 2nd round pick for just taking on Carter, I do that anyday. What I am still sceptical about: Young guys getting scratched / less icetime just so we can give Pearson and Bailey icetime who have no future with the team.

The only young forward I would be worried about is soderblom. He might still need more seasoning in the AHL otherwise we don't really have anyone ready to really make the jump up yet.

I guess Veleno would be part of that too. But remember we have Fabbri, so always a roster spot when he misses half the season.

So you are saying you wouldn't drop back 40 spots to save $5M in real money?

And which team is the trade partner? Canucks are Cap strapped and nobody is gonna help them for free.

The only other team I can think of is Anaheim. They have the cap and the roster spot for him. I could see them being in on one of the better players available in free agency though.
Arizona is at 56M cap for next season already and they have players to resign that will take them over the top so I don't expect them to do it for free.
San Jose is a cap team already so I don't expect them to help, be even if they move Karlsson.
Chicago has Jones, Murphy and Zaitsev for next year already, don't see them doing it without compensation.
This guy doesn't even realize he's just dropping 40 spots or so and saving a ton of money.

I think there will be a team that will be willing to take him on as a bottom pair dman. I guess we will see who is right come October of next year. If I'm wrong I guess I'll have to watch one more year of the chaos giraffe. Little update however Tocchet just healthy scratched Myers for the first time in his time with the Canucks so clearly the coach doesn't like what he sees and will have a big impact on what the team does in the offseason. Come to think of it that might make him harder to move so who knows... lol.

Come to think of it that might make him harder to move so who knows... lol.

Yeah honestly man if you think about my deal I feel it makes sense for both sides. Alot of people forget that running a team is still a business and an opportunity to save $5M is huge, basically pays for Demko or something. The pick exchange is only moving back about 40 picks or so. The only team I think would be interested in taking him is Anaheim. But why help out a rival team? Chicago has 3 guys on the right side. San Jose unless they move Karlsson is a cap team and even if they move him they are still well over the minimum. Arizona is basically at the minimum already with 56M in cap committed to next season and a bunch of RFA's to sign which will get them over the floor. Anaheim has a roster spot and might want a bit of cap but they are still a somewhat attractive destination for players being in California. They also have a couple likely big RFA contacts to hand out to Zegras, Terry and Drysdale.

That’s fair, but I think aqua man would be ok with paying and then being asset neutral as opposed to negative.

Re Carter Trade, no way that happens as people said above. But to add: highly doubt PIT would be willing to trade a 2nd round draft pick, we're an old old team right now and need the wealth if we can get it. We aren't selling draft picks right now, and certainly not second rounders.

That's fair, I don't see any team that he would allow a trade to. Looks like pens are stuck with him for another year. 20M in cap but alot of holes to fill. I wouldn't be opposed to that trade having a third coming our way but since I'm posting for my team I'm going to try and get the most value.

Well Arizona is probably good, 56M in cap for next season and a bunch of players to resign. Maybe Anaheim but I doubt anyone pays anything for him and also considering the financial savings this deal has for Vancouver it's a pretty no brainer.

For sure it'd be for future considerations or a late pick and as I say the acquiring team would just look to move him retained at the deadline for a 3rd
