Description
We have assets a win now team wants. Let’s build through the draft with a new coach. I love beaker but it’s time to move on. Six first round picks over 2 drafts plus Backlund, Zadorov, and Tanev that can be deadline deals.

So Seattle trades so much for one year of Hanifan? Think you're going to have to wait for TDL trades when teams know what their needs are, and the cap isn't so "much"

Devils can't trade 2024 1st, and shouldn't in this trade anyway.

They can trade it, but it would have to be conditional in case they lost it. They shouldn't make this trade at all though.

Yea, no chance from LA. They might throw in a B prospect in addition to Petersen, but they're not going to give up anything significant in a swap for a struggling goaltender with a longer contract and a bigger cap hit.

Where are you going to find a better goalie?

Why can’t they resign him?

What are the odds you’ll get a better player than Lindholm out of a late 2024 1st or Holtz? Not all that good is the answer.

If Meier didn't cost Holtz, why should Lindholm? Or put another way, if Fitz wasn't willing to trade Holtz for Meier, why would he trade Holtz for Lindholm?

By that logic, why can't they sign him as a UFA in summer of 2024 and not give up a first?

They literally just traded for one a week ago. Even if Korpisalo doesn't re-sign, they'd run with Copley (who has extended) before they gave up that haul for Markstrom.

I understand they traded for Korpisalo. I’m saying for next season they would get a better goalie.

Lou Lamirello just did this by trading for and extending Horvat. It happens often in fact. The idea of “rentals” is pretty overstated here. Boston traded for Lindholm then extended him. Pittsburgh did the same for Rakell. We just did it with Huberdeau. It’s not all that uncommon.

Because it’s not the same trade? Trades exist in the time they’re negotiated in. Why wouldn’t you want a centre of his calibre at a steal of a cap hit? There’s no such thing as too much centre depth if you’re a contending team.

Tell that to the organization that drafted Nemec over Wright and Cooley. Regardless, there is no reason to trade Holtz, nevermind Holtz and a 1st, for one year of Lindholm.
