With Regional Sports Networks going bankrupt.. The cap isnt going up much anytime soon despite the projections here. You're going to have pay to dump a lot of salary.

This is how Seattle will build a contender

Again, 30 teams blow that offer out of the water if he's moving, which he isn't, and the Blues are in no way in some dire cap straits anyway. This trade is comically delusional, as is any support for it.

Buch is signed for 2 more years at 5.8 mil. We are not competing so cap space isn't a problem. This is a horrible trade for the blues

You want a PPG 3 zone winger for 2 2nds and think that's good value for the Blues?

Lets not get into the part where what you had stated in terms of us needing cap space is objectively false.

We don't need cap space, and Buchnevich is not being traded for 2 picks around 55 60 lol.

I literally said nowhere it was good value for the Blues. What was the price you got Buch? A 2nd and Sammy Blais. You think that was a bigger price? You think an older Buch is a better asset when the Blues are now in a worse cap crunch than the Rangers were then?

Boggles my mind how some of you think you will get 10 1sts for every good player. Thats not how a market works

You know how a market works?

Someone has to want to sell the asset for the market to be there in general.

You're proposing a player who it makes 0 sense to sell.

Now lets get into stats to detail what it would take to get Buchnevich for the sake of simplicity we'll keep it to last 2.5 seasons.

Bo Horvat Age 27 Contract 1x 5.5 million Impending UFA
Player 1: Age 27
Year GP G A P
20-21 56 19 20 39
21-22 70 30 21 51
22-23 62 36 26 62

Timo Meier
Player 2 Age 26 Contract 1 x 6million Expiring RFA (10m QO)
Year GP G A P
20-21 54 12 19 31
21-22 77 35 41 76
22-23 58 32 21 53

Vladimir Tarasenko
Age 31 Contract Status: Impending UFA Contract 1 Year 7.5 million
Year GP G A P
20-21 24 4 10 14
21-22 75 34 48 82
22-23 50 14 24 38

Pavel Buchnevich
Age 27 Contract 3 x 5.8m Exp UFA
Year GP G A P
20-21 54 20 28 48
21-22 73 30 46 76
22-23 47 18 34 52

This does not account for Special teams play. Buchnevich is our leading penalty killer and has been most of his tenure here. He is the only player on our roster that has a positive Goal differential. He is signed for 2 extra seasons at 5.8 million where his market value is probably near 8 years x 8.75 million (referencing Horvat + Larkin extension).

This took approximately 15 minutes to type out. If you just went and checked the stats it would take 3 minutes to look at this and compare.

All of these players returned a 1st plus. Meier returned a massive package.

So please when the cap is lower, and for 2 additional seasons, please explain to me where you think he would return 2 2nds in any world. Or a 2nd and Sammy Blais or equivalent.

The Blues are not in a worse cap crunch. We have approximately 7 million in cap hit to add 3 forwards and a goaltender next season. Doug Armstrong, our General Manager who is in charge of this in the actual real essence of it has stated he does not plan on being a big player in the Free Agent market, hence the Kapanen and Vrana pick up. Hofer is one of the best goalies in the AHL currently and is signed to a 775k 1 way deal for 2 years, essentially outlining he will be the backup, or we will sign a vet for min price as a safety net if he is not ready, one that will pass through waivers.

We have 3 1sts and 2 3rds which can be used as capital to move players if need be but Armstrong also outlined that this retool/rebuild will most likely not be done by next season meaning, there's probably not going to be much of an addition in payroll.

So where is our cap crunch in which we dump our best player for 2 picks around 53 and 57 when we have 7 million to sign a 3C and fill out our 4th line?

But the Blues are not in a worse cap crunch than the Rangers. We have 18 already signed so we need 4-5 more players. We need to re-sign Toropchenko, Brown, Perunovich, and Tucker who are all coming off of injury riddled seasons or their entry level contracts. All of them will probably sign under a million each. Our backup goaltender is already signed to a 2 year 775K deal. We will still have 2-3 million left with a full roster next year. Don't know where you are getting that the blues are in a cap crunch. Plus our GM said we aren't competing next year and don't plan to sign FA. We have plenty of cap space next year

A very funny thing lost in all of this (true) analysis about Buchnevich's value and the Blues' cap situation is that this ACGM is one of objectively bad cap management.

Poster claims a team that isn't in cap hell is in cap hell in order to justify getting one of that teams best players for nothing, and then proceeds to construct a roster that is a man short because getting that player for nothing has put them in cap hell. If it's not trolling, it's a truly impressive display of irony even for Capfriendly.

Literally every team has had to balance putting players up and down the roster to acquire cap dollars in the cap world. The only thing that is ironic is for someone to speak so matter of fact on dealing with the cap on a salary cap management site yet being completely oblivious to the realities of the NHL.This isnt close to unusual when teams like the Oilers are used to running 20 team rosters or even the Knights at 18 players on the roster last season. But go ahead and find inconsistencies, its quite easy when you operate from an area of ignorance, indeed. I wont even touch the Buchnevich value as you are already speaking from an area of bad faith and lack of knowledge.

Cap hell is spending to the limit in a season and the following season Seattle has 16 players signed in 2024 with 20 million in cap room on this ACGM whereas St Louis has 10 players signed with 20 million in cap room.

Oh what an argument. I swear it's so easy to debunk this stuff that does get boring.

Are you talking about 24-25? Because 23-24 the Blues have all but their 4th line and a 3C signed and have about 7million in cap to do so.

If you're talking about the season after they do have a lot of money alotted to 10 players. However the 10 players are their top 6 and top 4 defensemen.

The issue isn't a cap crunch, it's the players on longer term contracts potentially aging out of the position they're supposed to play for the money. Which is fine considering we have 3 1sts this year, Bolduc, Snuggerud, Dean and Neighbors all pretty likely to take top9 roles. The defense is where the issue lies.

I still don't see how you can logically think trading our best forward contract who is still signed to that season is a remotely smart idea 2 seasons in advance. By that time Leddy wont be as hard to move, nor will Krug/Faulk. Krug is impossible to move this season and probably next due to his real salary being around 8 million, after that it becomes fairly friendly in terms of dollars owed. Leddy would only have 2 seasons left at 4m at that point.

If the cap raises yeah there might be an issue there. But bridging most of our top prospects like we did with Thomas and Kyrou and finding a few options at defense or moving one out (which we all expect) is much smarter than trading Buchnevich for a terrible return.

"The lesser intellectuals" lmao brother this is a mock hockey website we're not doing rocket science here.

You picked a team you know nothing about, ripped off one of their best players, and then got smacked down by people who know what they're talking about because they follow that team. Happens to the best of us. No reason to entrech yourself further into mental gymnastics, name calling, and apparently boredom. Just, idk, think harder next time or something.
