It pretty big evidence of Merkley still being a garbage human being that at 22 your team trades you for essentially a waiver player (which is what happened this year). Gainey was areound peterborough when Merkley was kicked off the team by his teammates so he knows whats up.

If you are a 22 year old 21st overall pick right handed D and your team dumps ypu for a 30 year old 8th dman (which the fact they didnt get a prospect back is pretty major evidence one wasnt offered) and theres no career altering injury that is a massive red flag that is easily linked to past event.
