So? Pay up or you don't get the player. This isn't Value Village.

Dreger says "refresher for the trade market? Big week for the Red Wings. With how Boston, Toronto and Tampa Bay have loaded up, Detroit is again listening to interest in Bertuzzi. Ask is a 1st plus.'

Leafs aren't bidding against themselves. Lots of interest in Bertuzzi.

The plus doesn't mean a top prospect. You think Bertuzzi is going to net a bigger return than Hronek (who has term)?

I can see a package of a 1st + 5th or something but not a top prospect (not just from the Leafs)

Unless the Red Wings are adding, Leafs aren't moving Knies and Minten

Then you're not getting Bert. But keep creating fantasy land CFACGM Bert to Leafs teams every 5 minutes even though he apparently sucks. Adding him to your top 6 is even more rich. LOL

I'll laugh my ass off when he's traded to Edmonton or Dallas.

Then let him walk, Leafs already done most of their adds. If we are giving up that package of Minten + 1st, Leafs look at guys with term like Konecny/Wilson

Any team trading for Bert will not be trading for him as a rental, bc Yzerman would never accept a rental price - he will just re-sign him.

These Leafs offers are continuously embarrassing.

Ok so good luck trading him to a buyer after 90% of the buyers don't have cap space or made their moves and won't offload any more assets. One more day left. One things for certain, Bertuzzi doesn't get you a Knies or Minten

Re-sign him then, no one is stopping you. I didn't understand the backward move of trading Hronek when he could be an integral part in a playoff push for the Red Wings next season. You guys will have to go for it eventually

Pretty easy to retain on him, cap isn't an issue. Re-signing him is the preferred move anyway.

It's not a backwards move. The playoffs mean nothing (unless you're ownership) if you're not actually contending.

We have 3 picks in the top 40 in a very good draft, pretty simple.

you know what would be great....if everyone on this thread didn't offer up their opinions as facts

I think it's fair to say we've all been surprised at the packages some players have gotten.

Things we've heard in the media or read on twitter didn't end up coming to fruition...whether on the high side or the low side.

I personally don't think Bertuzzi is worth a first and a good prospect...but that's me. Would I be shocked if a GM out there does? No. I also wouldn't be shocked if Bertuzzi goes for a 2nd, 3rd and B prospect.

The one big fact is that none of us are in the war rooms. We don't know how close or how far Detroit and Bertuzzi are from reaching an extension. It certainly stands to reason that Yzerman's willingness to trade him this week is higher than last week given the steep mountain they need to climb to get into a wildcard spot.

Look at Chychurn...he's been on the block for 2 years...sitting out weeks awaiting a trade...and then ends up going to Ottawa for an underwhelming package. It's a very fluid trade market and negotiating positions are constantly changing. I've certainly been incorrect on assumptions I've made as have all of us on here

So do yourselves a favour.....offer your opinions, freely...be open to being judged on them...that's all fine and good...just don't preach from some false position of authority. Debate and discussion are good. Embrace it

But eventually the Red Wings have to go for it. Those picks won't be ready in 3-5 years from now or they could be complete misses. Hronek was helping you now and could be getting better over time. If you were the Hawks or the Coyotes, it would make sense to move on from Hronek. The free agency market usually gets thin and now you have to find a replacement for him which could be hard

"Wings and Bertuzzi had not discussed a contract extension since December"

It's things like this we are not typically privy to. And makes comments like "we can simply re-sign him" mostly invalid as we can't know how willing the player is to stay or how much cap/term a team is willing to commit. If a GM knows the team is out of the hunt and feels the last negotiation was too big a chasm to overcome...you're willingness to take less back is pretty significant. Or if the opposite is the case, you're demand on a return is much higher.

All the trolling by wings fans over the last couple of days claiming that for the leafs to get Bertuzzi (50% retained) it had to be 2023 1st and a real good prospect (Minten/Knies) or young roster player like Liljegren were wrong again, just more hot air from people on this site who operate under the attitude of I'm right and you are wrong. 2024 1st and a 2025 4th is a far cry from that.

Like Juice said above in the thread, stop stating your opinions and demands as facts. It is hard to even have a reasonable discussion on this site anymore.
