The rangers have always had a problem mis-developing youth because they sign over the hump stars and give them valuable playing time. Where is Othman supposed to play? Are kakko and Lafreniere 3rd line forwards for now on? It'd be smarter to use that 5 million and give a long term deal to a guy like chytil or miller instead of bridging him. Look at the Bruins, they're dominating because they gave opportunity to their youth and then locked them up at affordable rates before they hit UFA. Same with Colorado.

Between Kane ans Senko...probably need to extend 1 of them...otherwise they are back to square 1 missing a top 6 RW. That said- taking on 3-6M in contract going forward will require an uncomfortable move or two. Which would be Goodrow and/or Trouba. Lock up the kids going forward (nothing wrong with 3rd line as long as Gallant rolls the lines), sign a 1RW, and let Othmann get to the NHL when he's ready...hopefully next year- but I wouldn't depend on that.
