Description
Jensen has played a shutdown roll in Washington for a few seasons, this assumes he's around the same trade value as Kulak last yr who went for a 2nd, a 7th and nothing roster player at 50% retained. Hirvonen is a high floor low ceiling prospect. Will likely be a chippy 3/4 lw who can chip in for some net front goals. Akhtiamov has a .930+ sv% in the VHL. great numbers, but there isn't a good sample size of drafted goalies who dummied in the VHL, so seems kind of boom or bust. Woll looks like an NHLer, they also have Hildeby and Peska as promising goalie prospects so I don't mind moving one out if WAS values one of them.

Gio - Holl has been effective in a shutdown role this season, but asking them to do it against TB (and hopefully BOS and CAR/NJD/NYR) is a tall task for a 39yo and a decent player in Holl.

Brodie - Jensen is a formidable shutdown pair, Gio - Holl will be responsible in a lesser role, and Reilly - Lily can drive offense with needing to be sheltered too much. If they need more offense one of Sandin or Timmins could sub in on the bottom pair

not a huge fan of Kerfoot with JT and MM but this gives them a couple decent shooters to play with ROR if they decide to be a 3 line threat / a shutdown 4th line.

I think Washington would much rather have the picks than prospects at this point, as that would be more easily moved at the draft for other players if needed, since the plan seems to be sell whatever they can this year and use the ammo to contend next year when everyone is healthy.

That's fair, I don't think this is super realistic I'm just hoping this is a buy low (kind of like the trade that brought him to Washington). I just would like to get another D that can be competent in a shutdown role

Jensen isn't a bad fit in Toronto for sure, but I just don't think this would be a situation where Toronto would be buying low, especially with Orlov returning a 1st and a 2nd from Boston.

this doesn't seem that far off but obviously depends a lot on what the caps FO thinks of Hirvonen vs. whoever they could get at ~55oa this year. Only thing I would add is that I would take the Kulak deal last year as a floor, Jensen has had a longer track record of better play and the RD market this year is horrible. I do think he would fit in great on the Leafs though, suits their style really well.

EDIT: this would never happen as BMAC would never trade for a Finn lol

Don’t think they’re buying low but Orlov was closer to just a first. I’d imagine that 2025 second mostly covered the retention and the cost of Craig Smiths salary
