Something new I guess

Description
Edmonton probably could use a defensive defenseman and Barrie might actually be good in Sully’s system so they take a shot.

Nashville gets a RHD to give them 3, pens get a 3C that can play up the lineup and multiple positions if necessary.

Anaheim gets a pick and prospect for Kulikov. Kulikov isn’t a big name, but when you don’t have cap space gotta bargain bin shop and can keep the pens having their depth on defense. He could be the 7th D too if they wanted to move Rutta to the left side and Ruhwedel up to 3rd pair.

Selling Blueger for cap space. Seattle is a playoff team with cap space and probably wouldn’t mind a cheap bottom 6 defensive forward and pker that played extremely well with Tanev.

Vegas who is short on cap space probably wouldn’t mind a cheap bottom 6 forward with scoring potential.

AZ gets a B prospect that they don’t need right away so he can have time to get things straightened out and a couple picks for Vejmelka and Ritchie. They take back DeSmith for contract space and cap reasons.

This definitely won’t happen, but hey, it’s something new and different I guess.

  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
Barrie is a total dump and the biggest contract in this deal. Dumoulin has some redeeming value still, albeit not much. Kappy has been slightly better than Puljujarvi imo all while being anchored by Carter. I think he’d do great playing in Edmonton on the top two lines as he can keep up. So that’s why I’m adding a conditional 1st that’s lottery protected and can be pushed to 2024 if the oilers miss the playoffs and the pick becomes a lottery pick.

  1. Johansen, Ryan (2 500 000 $ retained)

RyJo will be an expensive 3C but at least he is younger than Carter and can also play RW if needed. But when everyone is healthy should push Carter to RW where maybe he plays better.

Johansen's $8M contract is bad. Paying Petry $8.75M until he's 37 would be worse. NSH declines.

Oilers fans are going to eat you alive for that, they seem happy with Barrie's play this year.

From Anaheim, I've got a counter proposal. Pit 2023 1st, Jeff Carter, and Brock McGinn for Adam Henrique.

We send Carter off to the beach and park his cap hit as dead cap, we take your overpayed 4th liner in McGinn off your hands, and give you the 2 way, faceoff dominating 3C that you desperately need. It's cap neutral this season and next.

Vegas definitely isn’t doing that. Why do people think their castoffs are worth actual assets? He’s a 4th liner who isn’t replacing any of our guys. Not giving up a 3rd for that

EDM isn't giving up a 1st for the "right" to swap Barrie for Kapanen for 1.5 years and Dumoulin and Puljujarvi for this year. Also, doesn't fix their current cap issue. As such, nyet.

Fair enough…I was iffy about that and going back and forth about adding a 2nd round pick or not. With bare minimum research thought y’all really needed a veteran RHD.

Really cause everyone on here still seems to think he’s a massive cap dump. He is one of 2 regular defensemen on that team that’s a minus. And I figured since a lot of Edmonton ACGMs dump him or try to trade him off, that he still stinks. 🤷‍♂️

That Anaheim counter trade I’d do in a frigging heartbeat and wouldn’t think twice about it. Especially if it was a top 10 protected pick lol. But GMRH would probably have a heart attack if he was offered that cause Carter is his bestie and McGinn is his mistake and unlike Rutherford who was quick to admit mistakes and fix them, Hexy leans into them and doubles down on them.

Well cause teams do it every year, especially at the trade deadline lol. Playoff teams pay for depth every year lol

No they don’t just go for 5/6 round picks. They only go for that when the depth player has a hefty contract.
Examples:
Kraken paid a 4th for Megna
Wild paid a 5th for Reaves and his 1.75 million cap hit.
Canucks paid a 5th for Bear and Lane Pederson.
Canucks paid a 2nd and Dickinson for Stillman.
Stars paid a 1st and 4th for Lundkvist.
Knights paid a 4th for Adin Hill and his 2.175 million hit.
BJs paid a 4th for Mathieu Olivier.
Rangers paid a 4th for Motte last year and paid Gauthier and 7th for him this year.
Oilers paid a 4th for Brassard.
Jets paid a 5th for Sanford.
Jets paid a 4th for Appleton.
Preds paid a 2nd for Lauzon.
Stars paid a 3rd for Wedgewood.
Canucks paid a 3rd for Dermott.
Wild paid a 3rd for Deslauriers.
Sens paid Logan Brown and a conditional 4th for Sanford.
Rangers paid a 3rd for Reaves and his 1.75 million hit.
Sharks paid a 4th for Lane Pederson.
Avs paid a 4th for MacDermid.

So Archibald who is arguably better and cheaper than most of those guys and a 7th for a 3rd isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Edmonton saves 250k in cap this year and 1.3 million in cap next year. It sure as heck makes it a little better

Y’all just paid a 3rd and prospect for Blueger who is a 4th line making over double what Archibald does 😂
