Sounds like Hughes just wants to keep him, which I have also heard, I really doubt anyone pays a 1st. (Watch Calgary pay a 1st tomorrow)

i think that is one part of the situation but if cal keeps giving more then huges will have to see the light.

yeah we need a goalie for the future not a washed one. not someone that fills the net now

Markstrom was runner-up and almost won the Vezina last season and is in his prime. Probably has 7-8 more more years in him yet, just like Craig Anderson, who’s still going strong at 41 💪

MTL’s the Big Winner in all those scenarios

Tired of “Giving the Edge to MTL” they already took a lot on the Toffoli & Monahan deals, don’t you think!?

Toffoli you werent the only team and Just the only one who couldnt wait until TDL
Monahan you cleared cap to sign Kadri , are you saying you regret that Cause vs Effect scenario that allowed it?

Coleman is a good player 100% but Andersons a superior Goal Scorer in an off year . . . While offering a lot of the same dynamics
Savard gives you stability at the cost of 1m less cap then Tanev is offering you
Ruzsicka for Pitlick and Norlinder more or less you got shafted on intentionally

Really having Coleman isnt really better for MTL , Andersons a crowd favorite who plays physical and score's a lot of clutch goals.
A lot harder to move Coleman then Anderson hence there being no one calling CGY like they are in MTL for Anderson. We arent doing it because Ruzsicka is that interesting , just a Slovak i thought Slafkovsky would like lol.

Really i dont care as much about Cononato-Farrell being the Suzuki-Caufield of Harvard
Lafferierre's the Dach to their trio , cheaper and a better overall option for MTL timeline wise.
Anderson in a deal to SJS is much easier to accomplish too

I don’t think you quite understand or value Coleman’s Defensive, Checking or PK Ability. There’s more to hockey than just scoring my friend. Coleman is far more valuable to us than Josh Anderson; besides that he isn’t available

The Toffoli Trade is working out just fine, a bit steep, but whatevs. The Monahan Transaction cost way too much, but yeah, I’d rather have Kadri than Monahan. That said, Kadri is a lone wolf and tough guy to play with, so I wonder if Bo Horvat or JT Miller would have been better instead, but hindsight is 20-20 and Kadri was the best option available at the time. Kadri’s been our best zone entry puck carrier and draws a lot of penalties for us, so I’m happy we have him

At a Cap Hit of $4mil/yr, Josh Anderson would be very intriguing but given his low offensive production, inconsistency and injury history, he’s a gamble, hence why he’d only be worth a 2nd + B/C Prospect to us. If MTL wants Pelletier, Coronato or Wolf for that matter, they’ll have to send us an Amazing Deal or Package of Picks/Prospect in return, an offer we can’t refuse type situation

As for affording Anderson if he were to be acquired, I say it’d most likely be Tanev who gets moved out, since he’s older and injury prone. Another option might be Hanifin if Kylington returns and plays well and Hanifin indicates he won’t sign an extension in CGY and we can get a high return for him. Toffoli might be another option if CGY feels Dube, Mangiapane and/or Coronato can replace his offensive production. Finally maybe Zadorov gets moved if we can find a cheaper 3LD option or Dennis Gilbert is able to step in an replace him sufficiently

I know Anderson is polarizing because he's not a numbers darling, but in the real world GMs do overpay for such players.
When you consider both the GM and the coach would really like to have that player and Montreal is under no pressure to move him, that means they can set the price.
Anderson being worth (at least) a 1st isn't Habs fans talking out of their asses. It's objectively realistic.

When trading for an established NHL player, prospects are not given full value based on their future potential. That is why there are often multiple returns.
Thus Pelletier being < Anderson. Montreal may not be willing to take the chance of Pelletier being a career NHL'er and want some "insurance" in the form of an additional player or pick. If he has a 75% chance of becoming an NHL'er, you'd want another piece that is about 25% as valuable.

Again, I don't want to trade Anderson or want to acquire Pelletier. I'm only trying to look at this realistically.
Objectively, perhaps Anderson isn't worth $5.5M but you can't determine that with analytics alone. I'm okay with his contract, but I find general expectations to be rising as to what value you are getting and it's normally leaning towards production. The p/g players on ELC/bridge/team friendly deals locked in before they are fully established, are skewing those expectations as to what you should expect for $5M. The flat cap has further compressed dollars per point, as player salaries would still be rising otherwise and Anderson's contract would look a lot more reasonable in comparison.

I don’t doubt Sutter & Treliving like and have interest in Josh Anderson, that’s pretty much always been the case, especially after MTL’s Cup Run, but he’s definitely a gamble and tough to fit in cap wise

I bet Hughes never received an offer that included a 1st for Josh Anderson, because I’m on the bandwagon that he’d be crazy to refuse that. I think that’s all talk to try and generate a better offer for Josh Anderson

But I could be wrong and will be happy to say so if Josh Anderson somehow does return a 1st. Same goes for Luke Schenn returning a 1st. I think a 2nd is too much as well, but then again, look at the Ben Chiarot Trade as a result of the demand for him. Crazy things do certainly happen at the TDL

You’re definitely right about Coaches and GM’s highly valuing the Big Physical Gritty Guys, especially for the Playoffs

I agree CGY will be in a doozy next season with all the new contracts... except if they trade away Kylington +Zadorov +... I don't see it, but if they don't make the playoffs now, that might be another GM's problem later...

Flames have to trade out ~1M net cap space this offseason. There is zero logic to Anderson at all

craig anderson was out of the league for a good time... we need a first goalie for the future not someone that might be back to an old form for 2-3 seasons

I think we can get 1st + Pulju for Eddy
Fans may not like it, but these are realistic trade proposals.
Good job
