My Karlsson trade

Créé par: sammy1414
Équipe: 2022-23 Oilers d'Edmonton
Date de création initiale: 15 févr. 2023
Publié: 15 févr. 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Barrie and Yamamoto in the deal to save cap for next year. Bouchard is also included because it would take probably 4-5 million to resign and he's not any better than Barrie. Karlsson is not great defensively but a great puck mover and productive at even strength.

We don't mind taking on Puljujarvi as a throw-in on an existing trade, but we're not paying assets for him. He's an experiment, not value being pursued.

You really value a 4th round pick? i'm sure there's a team willing to give a 4th or 5th for him or else he'll be waived by this weekend.

Yea, couple more weeks and these ridiculous ACGM trades will slow down until the offseason haha.

I don't understand this, like at all. If, as you say, Karlsson is "not great defensively" (which I think most would agree with), what is Edmonton getting from acquiring Erik Karlsson? Offense, right?

Let's look at career scoring for each of these players, per 82 games:

Karlsson: 16-51-67

Barrie: 11-41-52
Bouchard: 9-27-36
Yamamoto: 17-23-40
Total: 37-91-128

So you've made the team worse now AND in the future, what with trading 2 established young NHL players + 2 high picks. And you have to also move Puljujarvi just to barely squeeze under the cap with a 21-man roster.

How did this seem like a good idea to you?

These are what they are. But until the Oilers forwards realize they need to back check to be a passing option and help clear the zone all the puck moving defenceman in the world aren't going to change anything.

it's a good idea because the Oilers will score more goals at even strength. compare Barrie's even strength stats to Karlsson's.

Over the past decade, Karlsson has, on average, 3 more points per season than Barrie at 5v5.

There's your comparison.

Why don't people ever look things up before spouting nonsense??

I got stats for this year:
Karlsson: 18-55-73

Barrie: 7-28-35
Bouchard: 3-17-20
Yamamoto: 4-8-12
Total: 14-53-67

Why would you look at just 1 year when making a decision that impacts 5 years?? There's a zero chance that Karlsson puts up this level of scoring going forward. He's never done it before and never will again.
