I don't understand this, like at all. If, as you say, Karlsson is "not great defensively" (which I think most would agree with), what is Edmonton getting from acquiring Erik Karlsson? Offense, right?
Let's look at career scoring for each of these players, per 82 games:
Karlsson: 16-51-67
Barrie: 11-41-52
Bouchard: 9-27-36
Yamamoto: 17-23-40
Total: 37-91-128
So you've made the team worse now AND in the future, what with trading 2 established young NHL players + 2 high picks. And you have to also move Puljujarvi just to barely squeeze under the cap with a 21-man roster.
How did this seem like a good idea to you?
