No. SJ shouldn’t want Toffoli and CGY shouldn’t give him up

Better to Send Picks & Prospects for Meier 50% retained and figure out whether we’re re-signing Meier and moving players out to clear cap space to do OR Trading Meier to get some top assets back in the off-season

So if we keep Toff, and use picks and prospects, what do your lines look like with Toff and Meier in the lineup?

The gap between Meier and Toffoli is neith Coronato nor a 1st, especially when you factor in the cap hita for next year

San Jose should have zero interest in taking this. No 1st this year and taking quite a bit of cap back

Also Coronato should not be included since Calgary absolutely can't re-sign Meier next year. If the Flames acquire him they will almost certainly be flipping him in the offseason for similar to what Fiala got (I do think Faber is worth a lot more now than he was at the time fyi).

A deal for Meier would probably be something along the lines of Zary + one of our B+ prospects (Ronni, Schwidnt, Beck, Stromgren, etc) + 1st. Unless a team offers their #1 prospect (or Holtz) they probably wont get a better prospect offered than Zary.

Meier-Lindholm-Toffoli
Huberdeau-Kadri-Dube/Pelletier/Ruzicka
Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman
Ruzicka/Dube/Pelletier-Lewis-Ritchie/Duehr

Need Toff’s Right Shot for the PP and he’s on a value contract. Probably our best forward offensively this season.

Dube, Pelletier or Ruzicka might do just as good otherwise a cheap sniper upgrade at 2RW (Duclair, Kubalik or Hoffman) and an Upgrade at 4C would be nice (Jeff Carter, Noel Acciari or Sam Lafferty)

We can afford to re-sign Meier, but it likely means moving Hanifin out tor sure (Weegar would be his replacement) and eithe both Kylington & Dube OR Tanev out as well.

It would definitively affect our Defence and we’d need cheap replacements, those possibly being LD’s Gilbert, Hagg, Seeler, Gustafsson, Poirier, Kuznetsov and RD’s Meloche, Schenn, Holl, Braun, Stone just off the top of my head

I prefer Hanifin over Weegar, but Hanifin’s next contract is going to be huge and the priority goes to signing Lindholm at $8.5/yr, which will come from Backlund’s $5.35mil. Hopefully the cap rises and Backlund re-signs a Team Friendly deal to complete his career as a Flame

A much better alternative is convincing Markstrom to waive his NMC though. Otherwise moving Mang might have to be on the table too

Im not sure if you saw this stat in the game today but Calgary was 2-7-4 with one of their regular top 4 out of the line up and 22-11-6 with them all playing.

You can't just "move put Hanifin and/or Tanev" and think ehh we can manage. No we absolutely can't.

In 2 years the cap is projected to go up by 4M, along with the 1M next year. Tanev, Backlund, and Zadorov all hypothetically come off the cap that year and the former 2 certainly won't be getting raises at their age. I have absolutely no worry about being able to re-sign both Hanifin and Lindholm cap wise

Who knows whether Hanifin will even want to re-sign in CGY and 33-34 isn’t necessarily old for a D-Man, but Tanev is broken and injury prone, so for his it is

IOW they’ve been great players for us the last few years, but it’ll be time to make room for and find the next up & coming guys. Maybe Kylington comes back and they move Zadorov & Hanifin instead

Gonna have to learn how to play & win without them eventually and they should be moved while they still have value and/or it’s at their highest.

I think Zary is good. He's having a great year. That said Calgary has never been mentioned in any of the trade rumours from Lebrun or Friedman. I doubt Grier moves him within the division unless the offer is overwhelmingly good.

If we can sign Meier long term it's certainly worth trading Toffoli and 1st for him. In fact that wouldn't be enough to get Meier. Coronato and a 1st might be enough though. No way we're giving up both Coronato and a 1st though especially not if it's a 2023 1st. Well maybe Coronato and a 2024 1st if they take Looch instead of Toffoli.

So 2023 1st + Kylington + Zary for Meier 50% retained?

We can throw Connor Mackey in the deal since Kylington probably won’t be back this season…
