Not sure how others will feel about the Ducks deal but I, personally, kinda like it. I guess the 3rd is for Kulikov and the 1st and Niemelä for Henrique with 50%. I'd accept.

As much as I love Adam Henrique, I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM and hope that he wins the Cup (along with Kulikov), or at least plays in the finals against Josh Manson and Andrew Cogliano.

Andrew Copp’s package last year was a 2022 1st + prospects and he only had 4 more points than what Henrique is projected to have this year. Henrique retained could definitely fetch a first for a team who isn’t willing to spend a massive package for a bigger fish. A team who needs a LW or 2C could very well pay that for Henrique.

Copp went for two conditional 2nds + prospect. And Copp got most of his points at 5v5 (Henrique gets a third of his on PP) with a cap hit > $2M lower than Henrique.
Henrique retained is worth a 2nd / 3rd imo; he’s also not the type of player Leafs should be targeting - again, imo

Just because you have an antipathy towards a player doesn't mean that you're biased, but bending the facts to fit your narrative does. Copp was traded for a pick that stayed a second and a pick that became a first precisely because the acquiring team was willing to take that risk. And the difference between Copp's cap hit ($3.64 million) and Henrique's cap hit here ($4 million) ISN'T "$2M lower," it's barely a sixth of that.

I think I’ve been pretty open re my antipathy toward the player - Henrique is an ave (overpaid) player on a bad team & without retention he is absolutely not worth a 1st imo. Even with retention I wouldn’t pay a 1st for him.
I was clearly referencing his full salary when I compared him to Copp’s salary last year.
Maybe Copp fit the profile of the type of player Rangers we’re looking for so they paid a premium. Henrique does not fit the profile of the type of player we need - we have skilled players; we need Bunting 2.0 - a bit of grit, size (preferably) with good hands. Marner / JT or Matthews / Nylander provide enough skill.

Those are all legitimate opinions, with the exception of your second sentence, because you clearly intended to suggest that Henrique's value re Copp is lessened due to his cap hit being $2 million more than Copp's, which it isn't in this instance (by a LOT); we're comparing the Copp trade to the trade here, not the Copp trade to an exchange with Henrique at full value.

What I objected to was your response to my friend @LosPatos' statement that "Andrew Copp's package last year was a first," to which you replied "Copp went for two conditional seconds," thereby implying that the return was LESS than a first and that the comparable didn't apply. That's utterly bogus and you know it; you know that Copp was traded for a first AND a second and it makes no difference how that first came to be a first -- the bottom line is the bottom line. Moreover, Copp was a UFA when traded, and Henrique has another year left, which is another factor that elevates his value in comparisons to Copp.

Look, you're entitled to your opinion, including your opinion that Henrique doesn't fit the Maple Leafs, and none of us on the Anaheim side at least will deny that. But when you start to distort indisputable facts in support of that opinion, that's intellectually dishonest and tends to offend those of us who feel a commitment to academic veracity.

What I stated was factually correct; the return in Copp trade always 2 conditional 2nd round picks + 5th (‘23) + prospect named Matthew Baron. Absolutely nothing dishonest about what I stated. If the trade proposal above included a conditional 2nd in place of a guaranteed 1st, that would be a demonstrably different proposal - would it not?
It’s also germane to point out that Henrique’s cap hit prior to retention was significantly higher than Copp’s. My assumption is Ducks having to retain salary increases the asking price? Having a 2nd year helps but also hurts - does 2 years of retention increase asking price even more?

I’m also not in favour of pointing to one trade as a comparable; nhl is full of terrible trades so you can always find one to support your case. Ben Chiarot was traded for an unconditional 1st + 4th (23); would anyone in their right mind make that trade again?
In my opinion players of Henrique’s skill set don’t get traded for first rounders

Untrue. All three of your statements are patently untrue. The final result of a trade is the final result, not the interim status. The return in the Copp trade was NOT "always 2 conditional 2nd round picks"; it was ultimately a first-round draft pick and a second-round draft pick. And we all know that the purpose of your statement was to refute the implied contention by my esteemed colleague that if Andrew Copp was worth a first, then so is Adam Henrique by implying that the Copp return was less than a first when in fact it was indisputably a first AND a second.

The rest of your last comment is just bloviation, especially the attempt to shift the subject to another version of this trade that no one suggested (the answer to your attempt at a rhetorical question is NO, by the way), so I didn't bother to quote it or respond to it.

Again everything I said was factually 100% correct. I can’t control what you choose to infer from written factual statement so 🤷.

It is NOT "factually 100% correct" to say "was always" when it indisputably wasn't. It's that simple. The trade was for a first and a second. Look it up.

The picks were initially 2 2nd rounders but became a first round pick…
