Is Meier Feasible

Description
If the Pens won the Meier sweeps I wanted to see if they could make it work going forward.

Also, this isn't about the Meier trade itself to be scrutinized. It's more about figuring out if the math works after this season to make this trade worth it.

Yes, Rakell plays both wings effectively.

Again, this isn't about the trade. Please read the description. It's just the math and Pens ability to fill out the lineup if they did win the sweeps.

Then why bother posting on here at all? Clearly you're the one wasting your time with meaningless input that's irrelevant to the discussion.

I think there's a few issues here...IMO:

-Tristan Jarry has a longer, better track record than Jack Campbell, who got a 5 x $5 mil contract this past offseason. Do I think you should go crazy with the AAV on a contract for him? No. Do I think he'd take this one though? Probably not.
-Zucker is on pace for a 20 goal, 50 point season. Again, I'm not saying that you go crazy signing him, but someone will give more than 3 x $3.
-With those two, maybe you just say "Peace" to Zucker, and split the difference in remaining $ between Jarry and a bottom 6 winger, which would obviously be fine.

After all of that, I'd definitley question the value of acquiring Meier vs. improving your d-core. There's no depth there. You've basically recreated the Florida Panthers roster build, except it's older.

Personnel decisions are fine, but it's really more about the math and where they can distribute that spending.

If Zucker makes it through the season having played 70+ games I still think some teams will be apprehensive about doling out salary and term until he proves another healthy season. He may have to do some sort of bridge to prove otherwise, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out for him.

Our defense depth is still fine. Friedman and Ruhwedel are solid depth pieces.

As far as Jarry goes, I don't know how that will pan out, but again just seeing the math in that position. Can the Pens fill out their lineup with quality players even after extending Meier and I think they can if they're smart.

This really isn't supposed to be about the trade itself. That said, I don't think trading Meier comes down to simply having the right assets, but about which teams believe they can extend him along with which teams he'd want to extend with. It's unlikely the Pens can make it work, but it's possible. I think NJ is the most likely destination.

Zucker is playing himself way out of the $3 mil range. He makes 5.5 right now and is having the second best year of his career. No chance he signs that low.
