Description
If the trade doesn’t work, what needs to be done with it to make it happen.
Transactions
ANA
  1. McIsaac, Jared
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (DET)
Détails additionnels:
In the end this may be a meaningless trade. McIsaac is so low in the depth chart, Detroit needs to trade him to maximize assets. Meanwhile, Tracey hasn’t done much since being drafted in the 1st round. I see this as a bit of a change in scenery for both players.

Yzerman already said that he's not trading 2023 picks, He's looking at accumulating more not giving them away.

Till it does/doesn’t happen, anything can happen. Nearly everyone has confirmed in some way that we’re looking at Meier, and that would almost certainly take 2023 picks

There's just one major problem with that. We would be trading away a player from our shallowest position in our depth chart to acquire a player at our deepest position on our depth chart.

I'd rather hang onto Tracey to see if he works out than get a guy who probably never cracks our roster.

We have 5 quality LD prospects (Ed, AJo, Wally, Buium, Viro). It’s probably our deepest. If he was RD, I might agree.

Well yeah Meier is a major upgrade over what we've now, He'll move them for major assets but not for lesser pieces.

Never mind, I see you’re a Ducks fan. Yeah, I live in San Diego, but I don’t follow Ducks, so not really sure how you guys view him. Gulls fans seem to like him, but talking to them they don’t seem to think he is a sure-ahot NHL player

Maybe he does, maybe not, he's only in his sophomore season in the AHL. He might just take a while to develop. Given our depth chart though, moving any LW prospect doesn't make sense given the pending departures of Henrique and Silfverberg.

I’ve always liked Hunter Drew, but don’t really see him being an NHL a player (4th liner tops). How does the Ducks faithful view him?

Meh? at 24, if he was going to do something with us, he likely would have done it by now. He's big so an extended development time is the norm, but it doesn't look like we believe he is NHL quality, at least not full time.

Like you guys, we have a pretty full LhD pipeline: 10th overall pick Pavel Mintyukov and 34th overall pick Olen Zellweger already signed, plus Tyson Hinds, and Jackson LaCombe and Henry Thrun on the Reserve List, so Jared McIsaac isn't of any interest to the Ducks. And there's youngsters Simon Benoit and Colton White trying to prove that they belong in the NHL. It's the OTHER SoCal team that needs LhDs.

All of Tracey, Perreault and Groulx have disappointed this season in the sense that none of them progressed forward. With that said it's easy to forget how young they are and how impactful the pandemic was to players of their age group. Perreault in particular should be playing his first season in the AHL based on age but instead he's on his third season. The CHL probably would have been a much better place for him the previous two years.

On top of that the Gulls are just terrible. Are the kids bad because the team is bad or the other way around?

As I watch it mostly looks like injury related. The teams defense is injury depleted.

A team doesn't end up at a 0.261 points percentage without having massive problems in many areas. For me it all starts at the top with the turn over from Murray to Verbeek in Anaheim and GMPV bringing in Dimaio to be the Gulls GM mid way through the summer. Didn't give that staff a lot of time but in spite of that they really cleaned house on Murray players (the veteran types, not the prospects). This is also Dimaio's first time sitting in a GM chair so of course he's got stuff to figure out about the job.

Then you've got the coaching staff. Sommer felt like a lame duck guy (pun not intended) from the very start and again I think that ties into the timing and Dimaio hire. They didn't have a real chance to get a "good" coach so they just threw an available re-tread at it. I'll be shocked if Sommer is still there next season.

On the player front you've got injuries. Ericksson Ek has been really bad in as the backup goaltender. Mahura getting claimed by Florida also hurt the Gulls pretty bad. I have to imagine that Verbeek expected either Josh or Colton White to be in San Diego and neither is. Why he waited so long to trade for a Del Zotto type guy is a good question.

And then you just have the weird gap the Ducks created with their prospect pipeline. Going heavy NCAA for a couple of years then swapping to heavy CHL is just awkward. You need more balance across the CHL, NCAA and Euro leagues on a year-by-year basis.
