The ask for McCabe with full retention starts with a 1st rounder - which you don't have here. Not enough for Chicago to give up Jake, much less add a useful bottom-6er in Lafferty.

Meier deal is closer but I feel like it could get beaten. Niemela and a 1st is a good start, Robertson is kind of a question mark at this point due to the injuries. I think you gotta add something else at about a 2nd round value - either a 2nd, or a second-tier prospect (Hirvonen/Voit? not sure who the Sharks would target)

Despite that it's still terrible. McCabe is worth 2 2nd's at least and a 2024 protected 1st with 2mil retained. Lafferty is a 3rd/4th round worth. That prospect sucks and kerfoot is a cap dump. There is only one Chychrun on the market, and I doubt anyone wants to pay AZ's price for him. I think AZ set their price so high because they don't even want to move him unless the return is absurd, and rightfully so, because they are trying to build a roster to hopefully be competitive at some point in the next decade. There are PLENTY of valid arguments and comparable trades to support McCabe with 50% retention bringing back a 1st. There are more variables than just the player himself at face value. Getting a legit top 4 defensive defenseman for at least three cup runs with a cap hit of $2M a season is an invaluable asset for teams like TOR that are strapped for cap space. Top that off with TOR dumping cap and getting a legit bottom 9 forward back with an extremely reasonable cap hit.

As for what happened to Kyle Beach, it was absolutely awful. I read the Jenner and Block report in its entirety and it made me sick to my stomach. I almost gave up my life long fandom of the Blackhawks and hockey in general because of it. But to make generalized comments about the entire organization, its players, and it's fans being sexual predators is despicable. Take some time to understand the details of these things. The only reason it was such big news and we all know about it is because the Blackhawks organization wanted to do right by him and they financed an independent investigation into their own franchise to get the whole picture of what happened, make it public, make the necessary changes, and hold themselves accountable. Most franchises would have just swept something like this under the rug, and most of them probably have many times over. There is still more to be done, but I believe they have taken a lot of the right steps to take responsibility and try to ensure the best they can that it never happens again. The only people actually involved at that time were their scumbag video coach, and the poor young "black ace" taxi squad prospect/player (Kyle Beach) that was manipulated, drugged, and raped by him.
