What's the motivation for Vancouver to retain on Garland's multi-year deal? If you are offering RH+a 3rd can hope to get him without retention but even that's unlikely.

I would be more inclined to play Barbashev on the 2nd line - a physical presence that get in the dirty areas, freeing up JT and Nylander do what what they do. A very effective 2-way player on a pretty good contract. Don't see the Blues having interest in Anderson, but if it more to free up a roster spot, then have at it. Feel the valuation is bang on.

I frankly don't see the need for Garland. Can put up 50 points and all sure, but another smallish forward isn't what the doctor ordered here. Not even sure if that is enough for Alvin to pull a trigger. That pick may have to be a 2nd, and the Canucks need another forward like a whole in the head.

Agreed. I think the bigger miss here is IF moving Garland, Alvin MUST be looking at defense. That team needs another forward like a whole in the head.

Beyond that, I really don't think the Leafs need Garland, not a fit.

I think Garland could fit but it would just be more of the same. With keeping Kerfoot, he definitely wouldn't be needed.

Exactly..... more of the same lol.

Anything I have suggested in acquiring a top 6 winger for the Leafs is a player with size with the ability to play a defensive game. (Saad, Henrique or course, Mantha before Washington figured it out).

Need a forward that can get into dirty areas and handle it. Can fit this "team defense" thing Keefe has finally sold them on. Garland isn't that guy.

Theres reports that VAN may buyout garland in the offseason. Retaining 1 mil and trading him would be less of a cap hit

You have a source for that?

Garland is still a younger productive player. Buying him out would be a disservice to the organization at this point. A totally movable asset. Money nor the term is completely horrible.

Mind you, when the tire fire rages, does anything surprise anyone?

Maybe but they are trying to move Boeser too and interested teams are expecting retention there too. So, saving ~900k in cap by retaining vs buying out Garland doesn't make much sense. There's also Myers next year who they may need to retain on if they want to move him, buying him out wouldn't help. OEL is also someone who they may choose to buy out if they are looking to sign a FA defender for 5m or so.

Rick Dhaliwal and David Pagnotta both reported it as a possibility.

I am shocked and not shocked all at the same time.

Like I said, Garland has value. The return may not be what Canucks fans want it to be, but Jesus..... buying him out is brutal management.

Just move him for what you can and move on.

Buying out Ekman-Larrson would make more sense lol, and yet even that doesn't right now 🤣🤣🤣

Canucks are the worst managed team in the league, but you’re taking shots at Dubas for cap mgmt tears of joy ? Come on bud - disagree with trade proposal all you want but stay on planet earth.
Leafs are in good shape cap wise; majority of leaf fans don’t want garland (overpaid and undersized). Offer may be too low for him but doubt you’ll get too much more back given that contract ($ & term).

Garland in the right situation I think can be worth the contract, but the Canucks will not be getting the return they want. That situation certainly isn't with the Leafs.

The Ducks are a big team, where a player of Garland's particular skill set would give that top 6 some dimension. Now, we are all aware of what Verbeek's ideas are on building that team, but, Garland can still a 50 point player..... but at this point in the game, a late 2nd maybe the best the Canucks do.

It's a massive loss given what they gave up to get him, but this is something Vanciuver fans will need to accept. Simply put, the utter mismanagement of that roster has diminished his value considerably.

Well if you want to get into a pissing match I musta struck a nerve lol

Canucks cap situation sucks. Leafs do as well. Pawning off nobodies & AHLers all over these ACGM is the proof. The revolving door goalies the plugs in min contracts. Just sayin…
