Meier is 100% a pure rental in Toronto, Toronto doesn't have the cap space for what Meier will want.

Robertson is out for the season, Sharks aren't taking back an injured player. plus Rangers and Devils are heavily pursuing Meier and would blow away this offer.

Blow this offer away? If TOR offers all these parts, I can see the Devils move on to someone else. That's way too expensive. I'd rather get a rental and then buy him from TOR at the draft for far less than they would have paid for the extra playoff run.

No team is giving up that much for Meier, Unless you're basically a cellar dweller. he'll be a rental to most teams. Probably no more than 8 teams can afford what he'll be asking on his next contract. Which will be either 8 x $8,500,000 or 8 x $9,000,000 per and that's definitely not coming from Toronto.

Just to add it's a ridiculous overpay (by any team). Meier is getting UFA this summer, why would team even with cap give up so much. Even if the Leafs or any team any cap, they could sign a UFA and keep the two prospects and the two firsts.

He's still RFA as long as the team that has him qualifies him. He's a top line forward for sure, it's just tough to find a team that can acquire him, extend him, and contend in the future. It's gotta be New Jersey. I don't see it being anyone else.

I meant to say UFA money. Why give up all that when can get a UFA for the same price. The teams that can afford his cap this year and next year....Jersey (as you suggest), and I would add Sabres and Wings, they really don't have the pressing need to acquire him this season (they aren't Cup bound).
