But I think Hughes would probably be most similar for NJD fans. And the answer, would obviously be, no.

Yeah, that is why I said Hughes, who is first year of his deal. But Mercer is a pretty solid young player. I have seen worse packages for top guys.

Even if he was already extended to a long term deal? Lets say you signed Bratt to a long term deal today, then at the draft LA offered you Kaliyev + Vialrdi + Helge Grans + 1st, would you do it? Would you do that for Hughes who is more in line with Tkachuk impact wise?

There would have to be a reason we were trading Bratt, since our window is now, but in a vacuum yes I take that package. If he said he wanted out, and a hockey trade for a DeBrincat or Laine was off the table, that's an enticing package.

As for your second question, Bratt is a top line winger. Hughes is a top 5 player. Hughes, given his age and contract, is perhaps the most valuable trade asset in the league.

You have to compare it to a similar situation with Tkachuk, so if Bratt is the example then it would have to be an extended Bratt.

As for Hughes, outside of being a center the overall difference in impact between him and Tkachuk is very minor. If you want to call Hughes a top 5 player then Tkachuk would be at worst 6th. For example if we look at WAR; Hughes currently ranks at #1, with Mark Stone close behind at #2, and Tkachuk right after him at #3 (then there is a 3-way tie for 4th-6th between McDavid, Pettersson, and EK).

So the original question was would you even do that package for Bratt (with an extension already in place) but that's because I thought offer was originally quite underwhelming for a probably top 5 player in the league as well in Tkachuk (who is in year 1 of an 8 year deal in his prime).
