Description
I think our goaltending and PK will look significantly better with a couple guys are more willing to eat some of the pucks coming at them. Our next highest shot blocker is Dahlin with 72 and Sammy is at 54 in 31 games - basically on pace with Dahlin
the next 4 defenseman are in the 40s.

Sabres are sandwiched between Colorado and Carolina in the bottom 3 in blocked shots, which sounds like good company, but those teams have given up 31 and 32 less goals.

I'm not saying blocked shots = wins, but I think it's a good indicator of defensive responsibility which this team is seriously missing outside of Dahlin/Sammy. Murphy opens up Power to keep doing his thing, and McCabe/Joker is a major upgrade to Bryson/Lybushkin....

... but is it worthy of a 1st and a promising prospect (albeit VN is a project)? Is it enough for CHI? think it's close, but let me know what to add.

I would say Chicago trade would be for whole 3rd pair. And Sabres need to take minutes from Dahlin and Power.

Have always loved McCabe. This definitely fills the holes but can maybe be done for less than 8mil AAV combined b/w the 2 and giving up a 1st. Probably cheaper options in UFA next year

That's fair, and agree on the minutes. I'm just not a fan of Joker with Power though.. I think he's a 2nd pair defenseman, but I don't like the combo. I honestly think McCabe fits the bill best but I didn't want to upset the "can't play lefty on the right side" crew

Yeah the 8 mill limits what they can add next year, but I'd be OK mortgaging some of the future to support their young core NOW

Hawks decline. The 2023 1st isn't nearly enough to get McCabe and Murphy. If the Hawks liked Neuchev enough to take him in this deal, they would have drafted him w/ pick #66 in the last draft. And if Lybushkin was playing up to expectations, he wouldn't be in this deal.

Not following your logic on Neuchev.. you didn't have every pick in the draft. So if whoever they took was 66 on their board, and Neuchev was 67, that means they didn't like him?

Lybushkin is a throw in but we can just do the paper transaction dance we've been doing. (Edit: tbf I didn't mention that anywhere)

What are they worth separately in terms of draft picks? The Hawks fans asking for a 1st and a prospect for either of them are asking for way too much

Since both are signed for multiple years at reasonable cap hits, the Hawks don't have to trade either player this season unless they get offers they can't turn down. I'm of the opinion each of them could return a 1st, or if not, a 2nd and a good prospect.

This discussion has been had on multiple previous Sabres ACGM posts. I get that Sabres fans don't want to part w/ 1st rounders or their better prospects, but if the Sabres don't, some other team will. Or if not, Hawks just keep both players.

Hawks decline the offer, but the trade of both of them to the same team is an interesting premise. Hawks decline because they don't want a 28 year old D in Lyubishkin. I realize you'll have a log jam on the blue line with the 2 new additions so maybe he can be traded somewhere else. As for Neuchev, I'm dead against obtaining Russians currently playing in the mother country. You never know if and when they'll sign a NHL contract. So in place of those two, Hawks will accept different forward prospect and another pick - Bloom and the Philadelphia 2nd.

And the Hawks are not sending backing the 2025 3rd.

Lybushkin was just for free basically, wasnt meant to add muxh to the trade. Ill just take him out for simplicity's sake.

A different prospect is a reasonable ask, but adding the 33rd pick and not sending anything back isn't.

I'd do the existing 1st, Buffalo's 2nd and Bloom (likely become top 5-10 in your system?), and maybe a little extra. Seems like that's at the very high end of their combined value **in a vacuum,** but I do understand that you're looking for the "make me move" price

Also, this part kind of made me chuckle considering Chicago is the birthplace of the 25 year old rookie of the year tears of joy but it does make sense

I'd kick the tires on Murphy alone. I can see a 2nd and a prospect, if anybody is offering a first, it's gonna be late.

Fair enough. Definitely more likely to happen.

Yeah I get the "make me move" position, but what you said is more than fair for the player.
