Description
Digging deep on this one...

So, GMJR does not want to rebuild, but he wants to retool. Kuzmenko spent all that time in the KHL before finally deciding to join the NHL... I doubt he did that to suck donkey balls for his NHL career. With likely no plans to re-sign and being a UFA in the summer, he gets traded at the deadline for Chytil - who helps fill a middle 6 center void with Bo Horvat gone - and some other prospect or picks (Kravstov, a pick, whatever). Chytil is still cost controlled as he is an RFA at the end of the year, so it helps VAN in the money department as well.

On the other hand, NYR send off assets on a future piece instead of just a rental. I guess the same trade and contract could work for Patrick Kane, but he is nearly 10 years older than Kuzmenko... I think it's an interesting idea.

The biggest wrench is that absolutely stupid Boldy contract that was signed today... but, hopefully NYR can convince Kuzmenko's agent that it's different since he has only been in the NHL for one season. After 3 years, he will be just about 30 and can still get a pretty hefty contract if he's still playing well. Maybe it can be shortened to 2 years if that'd help.

This doesn't really handcuff NYR in the future given the looming cap raises, etc.

I think that offer gets beat if he is traded and he'd sign for more as a UFA.

I'm sure he can make more money, but can he have as good a chance to win with that money? Also banking on the Panarin and Shesterkin stuff. I guess I shoulda kept Kravstov in hindsight...

Like the trade for both teams but agree with others that he probably gets either more money or more term. Don't really think the Boldy deal works as a comp though as MIN is paying more now to buy off a couple of FA years and Kuz is 28 -- very different situations

I mean, the Devils alone could go after him and give him as good of a chance to win and spend more. I could see CAR doing the same with what is coming off the board for them.

Canucks pass, canucks would simply sign him to that contract if he was willing to take that, also nothing real of value to us coming back in that trade

I would do this as a Canucks fan if Kravtsov was replaced with a mid round pick. 2nd or 3rd. I personally am a huge fan of Chytil and I think he is exactly the type of player Canucks management wants and would fill Horvat’s void.

Do you mean he will be 28 after a contract? Cause he is 26 right now not 28.

100%. Don't need wingers coming back. Just need centers, defenseman or picks.

Apparently a bridge deal for Kuzmenko would start at 6M. I think it was Dreger who said that.

Rutherford stated today that they've begun talking contract with Kuzmenko and I think both the team and player want to be back. If contract talks aren't going anywhere or if Kuzmenko has a change of heart and wants to leave then I would absolutely take this deal. I think I value Kravtsov more than normal though.

Kravtsov is looking like Lias Anderson 2.0

What do you see in him other than a likely bust with poor attitude?

I think his talent level is higher than Andersson's ever was. When he's at his best he's deceptive, creative and lethal in every way offensively. I've seen slight flashes of it this year, but I think he's also not very confident this year (a common theme among young NYR forwards). He's not small and is capable of holding the puck to make a play, even more so if he continues to fill out and train. I think the talent is still there with a fresh start in the right environment he could still be salvaged as a good offensive piece. I think Vancouver has a good chance at being the right environment for him because we can play him with Pettersson and he will have even more Russian countrymen on the team.

At this point in his career, he is 23 but has shown 0 signs of improvement. Has poor attitude and work ethic, and really hasn't capitlized on the oppertunities given to him. I wouldn't mind acquiring him for cheap like Studnicka, however I wouldn't give any valuable assets for him. I'd say a fourth round pick max.

If we could get him for a 4th or Studnicka I would be all over it. It's definitely a risk but I think it's one worth taking if we're willing to play him with Pettersson and/or Kuzmenko. Rutherford talked about bringing in young players who haven't worked out on other NHL teams and Kravtsov was the first one I thought of. We'd be betting that the reason we haven't seen more out of him to this point is because of his lack of opportunity and confidence rather than his lack of ability, which is worthwhile I'd say in this case.

I wouldn't want him as the centerpiece of a Horvat trade, but Kuzmenko for Kravtsov+ or Hoglander for Kravtsov would be along the lines of what I'd want.
