Konecny. Trading for a ufa that you would then have to pay until he's 36 is dumb. Especially when you don't have a need.

Gee, why would Sabres trade so much for a rental in Horvat. Even two full season of Konecky is iffy for the Sabres.

Sabres don't need a rental center, and that package is not good for Vancouver

Well idk that Philly is trying to trade Konecny, so he might cost more than that. He’ll certainly cost more than Horvat bc Horvat is about to be a UFA & Konecny is under contract.

To answer your question though….
Horvat is more valuable imo- he’s a Center. And he’s the kind of 2way Center we don’t have (& need imo)

But what I’d do personally, is go after BOTH
Play them together on the 2nd line, & bump the Cozens line with Quinn & Peterka down to line3

It would be (kinda) tough to do that with the Cap
But i don’t think we’d have to worry about that for a few more years, and by that time the Cap will have gone up a bit to help us out- & we’ll have gotten rid of some Cap in guys like Okposo & Skinner, etc
Eventually, the Cap will be something we have to finesse even if we didn’t bring in 1 (or both) of Horvat/Konecny anyways
It would just take a little longer

I think both guys could be excellent pieces to get though
And both would really help this team take a step forward to the next level as well (imo)


A cheaper option, who i also like & can fill one of their roles, would be Max Domi- he’s a UFA after this season as well
And he’s a pretty good 2way guy who plays feisty & can win faceoffs- plus play Center or the wing

Konecny has term Bo would have a rediculous contract for a 3rd line Center of Buffalo wanted to resign him

Agreed, and I feel the same with Domi too.

Idk know that we could make it fit under the Cap,
but a 2nd line of: Domi-Horvat-Konecny would be pretty awesome
Idk how we do it unless we get rid of Skinner in time to give Dahlin his raise though

So it’s extremely unlikely to happen
Heck, even Horvat + Konecny is unlikely

I like horvat, but not at whatever it would take to sign him. Has domi been better? I thought the book on him was kinda like ennis- he's not very good defensively, but you have to play him at Center because he's awful on the wing.

Idk that’s true anymore (bad defensively & not able to play on the wing)
He’s certainly still feisty, has greatly improved on faceoffs (56% this year), & can produce decently offensively
Maybe he costs around $5mil vs $8mil for Horvat

Idk…. Just throwing out options
