Im a bit lost, has Ty Smith not only made you cap compliant but also has been very solid? Sure trading 16th OA for Kapanen was a bad deal but plenty of GM's have made just as bad deals over the time

He was in the AHL most of thr time while Marino has been a God send to the Devils....so he's a bit angry following the WPG loss.

Marino has been good but since being called up Smith has been very good for them. Winnipeg is one of the top teams in the league and Pittsburgh is aging out, seems like an odd thing to be mad about

The Pens had their 3rd string goalie in net against the Jets and were without Letang, Petry and Pettersson, Idk how many teams are winning games against a top 10 team without their top 3 dmen and their backups backup in goal.

I'm just trying to imagine why he was so upset to reach back to that trade...

Hextall has been a good GM so far haha. Only real bad trade he has done is the MCcan trade, and hes had what 1 bad contract extension with Carter?. I really don't get the hate for Hextall. Every single GM ever employed great or not have done bad trades and bad contract extensions. Hextall has done a fine job. Gotta get Healthy, move out a dmen (Ideally Dumo) and add a 3rd line center and we are fine haha

What has he done that's good? I think its been disaster after disaster from the expansion draft to the Carter/Kapanen signings. He made the team older and slower after last season. Its been one miscalculation after another

Yikes, What has he done good, well let me think, Oh the Rakell trade, Signing McGinn, The Jan Rutta signing, The Marino trade is looking like a win -win for both teams, Petry has been solid minus that 7 game stretch earlier when everyone was dog **** oh and add Poehling to that deal who has made himself a nice 4th line roll. The Carter trade was great (The extension wasn't). Kappy has been alright, It's not a great signing but it also isn't a brutal one like many seem to think. Ill give you the expansion draft, that should of been handled a tad differently where we could of simply lost mccan and kept tanev but overall Hextall has done a good job haha. When Healthy we have seen what this team can do, All we need to change when Healthy is Ty Smith in for Dumo and Fix the 3rd line and the team is golden

We dont have the cap space for Ty Smith to play or anyone from the AHL for that matter. Nor do we have enough space to fix the third line. Rakell trade was good. Besides that I really dont like anything he's done. McGinn is a worse replacement than Tanev and hasn't produced besides the one streak this year. Rutta signing was just pointless. He hasn't been horrible, but was he really what the tema needed. The goal getting Petrey and Rutta was to make us tougher to play against and that goal hasn't been accomplished at all.

the problem is the moves he made that ended up being good were obvious - and then the obvious moves he should have made (protecting mccann, not resigning carter, not trading marino) he failed to do. he clearly has no real idea on how to value players. he really couldnt see jeff carter being trash at this age? he couldnt see mccann growing with increased time? he didnt watch the entire rangers series where it looked like marino was the best player on the ice?
its just insanely stupid stuff that required no thought - but he overthinks it and look at us now.

yes, cap compliant because we simply HAD to retain the golden god jeff carter for some baffling reason.
keeping jeff carter has cost this team john marino and mccann. just insane player evaluation from a nhl general manager.

Sure but that doesn't mean that the specific trade was bad
