Deal. Kubalik has been really good on the pp, but has been pretty invisible lately. Plays on the 4th line a lot. A team that plays very offensive minded hockey would be good fit for him.

you really think there are going to be a ton of teams lining up to give a 1st+ for Kubalik this deadline? He's a middle-6 power play specialist - not saying he's worthless, but guys like that typically don't get a 1st rounder as rentals.

that's on me! for some reason i lumped him with the max domi/andreas athanasiou signings as one-year deals.

it's still a big ask - the only recent comp for a winger with term getting a 1st was the tyler toffoli deal, and toffoli came with a longer track record of production. Kubalik's on about a 25 goal pace right now after only hitting that level once, back in his rookie year.

A very late first round pick carries around a 20% chance of turning into a regular NHL player, I would rather keep the 25-goal scorer. Ranta adds nothing and the replacement player would be what would be making the trade interesting for Detroit.

It's not a deal, Ranta is trash and the pick is late. We've better players in our pipeline better than Ranta. Make it Olausson and we might take it.

Dude he's on pace for 62 points 27 Goals and 35 Assists, So yeah with 1.5 years left at about $1,300,000 he's easily worth a 1st plus a decent prospect.

Idk why the Avs do this. Solid player, but the Avs already have 4 better top 6 wingers when healthy (Rantanen, Landy, Nuke, Lehkonen). Kubalik wouldn’t be on a top PP unit either (MacKinnon, Makar, and 3/4 of the top 6 wingers).

Fit doesn’t make sense here, imo.
