I would like to point out that Yzerman wouldn't do this if something wasn't wrong. I think Vrana has some serious problems. A redwing fan friend of mine speculated it could be opiate addiction, given his injuries in recent years and his time in the players assistance program. But if CHI could help him get clean and turn things around (if that's the issue), he could be a great pickup for them.

Yzerman isn't dumb, If he put Vrana on waivers. More than likely his career is over. He definitely knows more than what's being let out.

Why would it be about MATH? I understand we need to clear some roster space. But let's face it. Both Bertuzzi and Zadina have no future in Detroit. We can always put other players like Hellberg or Nedeljkovic on waivers if need to. To open up another spot right now neither have much value. Could be wrong. Vrana has a $5.25M cap hit and the return on Toews and Kane with retention would be far better than Vrana. It's also why I think Columbus and Ottawa don't sign him either.
