Description
Obviously open for discussion on the Vancouver trade. Thought pattern is its going to cost an arm and a leg which is why it may or may not seem like over kill, in particular if the Canes were re-sign Horvat. Dury would get a chance to play in the NHL this year full time it would seem and give the Nucks some control. In the stretch I valued Rees over Drury for the Canes in the long term projection if we had Aho, Horvat, KK and Staal as Rees could possibly be the fourth line Center of the future.

Schenn I viewed as a pick, a player and half bascially for him. Gives the Canes a little more grit on the back end cheaply for the playoff run, but doesnt sacrifice depth. Maybe this is to little here based off trades in the past year. I felt the Nucks recieved fair value in return for two rentals and getting futures plus some who could play now.

The late round pick of Vancouvers I threw in there was for the third team eating some more salary. This could also be enough so Koochie could stay on the roster full time.

Im also banking on Kase not being able to come back even though hes making strides, which sends him to LTIR. Koochie for cap reasons is emergency recall for not if..but when raants or Freddie (Once healthy) are injured again, if a third team doesnt eat salary.

If my thoughts are way off...my bad, but at the same time this is the fun of things like this. Lets discuss!
Transactions
CAR
  1. Horvat, Bo (2 750 000 $ retained)
  2. Schenn, Luke
Détails additionnels:
3rd team could get a late round pick as a sweetner to eat part of this retained salary or a little more of it to lower the cap hit for the Canes.

Carolina won’t do this, since it’s very unlikely Horvat would resign with the Canes. The Canes aren’t a team that move high end assets for rentals. So Drury and the first would not be going to Vancouver, and then there are no more trade talks. Take it with a grain of salt, but the rumor is Horvat wants to play closer to his London, Ontario home. Carolina wouldn’t offer this package for a Horvat in this first place, and the unlikelihood of them being able to retain him is close to nil. As it stands, a Horvat to Carolina trade is both illogical and extremely unlikely. That is all before discussing what he wants for his next contract, which the Canes won’t give him. They have walked away from key players wanting more than they are worth (Hamilton, Trocheck, DeAngelo), and Horvat isn’t worth the 8+mil he wants.

this roster has shown how far it can go in the playoffs already. at some point they need to go for it, with Horvat or whoever. I doubt Colorado cares much about not having Barron anymore in their system.

My thoughts exactly, even if they dont extend Horvat then so be it. A little changed from last year, but who wouldnt want more. Our star players for the most part are young, we have good young players waiting in the wing. We find talent in the mid rounds and by sacrificing some others to have an even better shot at the cup? Take it....

Rentals don’t move the needle a ton for teams as far as increasing their playoff winning chances. The saying of “going for it” when applying to big deadline trades isnt “going for it” at all. Going for it is setting up your roster in the off-season and adding depth at the deadline.

And you know what wins cups? Depth. Just look at past cup winner's trades at the tdl. Colorado with Manson, Sturm, Lehkonen, Cogliano. Plus, 3/4 of those players are still with the team. Did they overpay a bit for Lehkonen, sure. Would the canes trade one of their better prospects for a 3rd liner, pobably not. But my point is, big rental trades just haven't worked for a lot of teams. Copp, Giroux, Chairot, come to mind.
