Not giving up Rosen for Chychrun, other good prospects to choose from that aren't even in are top 10. And I already get a 2nd in Johnson walks, rather sign him, which I am 80% sure happens, unless Adams makes a few D acquisitions or use him in something else. And that Edmonton trade why not just get JP instead.

They (or whatever team trades for him) will get a compensatory second round pick if Johnson doesn't sign. So, they will get a second-round pick for him one way or another. I agree though that Anaheim wouldn't do this because they will most likely be able to sign him without giving any compensation (He played for the Jr Ducks growing up). I could see a good west coast team making this deal as a flyer to see if they can sign him. The Avalanche or Golden Knights could make this trade to make Johnson say no to signing with them. If he does say no then they would get the compensatory second (which should be around 64) so they would only be moving back slightly from the pick that they trade to the Sabres.

As @greysuits mentions above, it's compensatory.

What if Arizona only accepts with Rosén included? What if they say we want Savoie or Rosén or it doesn't happen?

Then it doesn't happen IMO, and they already asked for Savoie so that tells you something right there.

Fair enough & I think that's where Kevyn Adams is at. In my mind, you're going to have to move prospect(s) eventually. Why not move Isak now while value is high and you still have Kulich, Ostlund, Savoie, '23 1st, etc. Not to mention Krebs, Peterka, Quinn

Understand what you are saying, just don't think he's the best fit.

Is sure is wonderful to be discussing adding one or two more pieces to making a Stanley cup team than 3 new defensemen and 3 new bottom six forward to make a playoff team.
Both the Athletic https://theathletic.com/3101386/2022/02/09/wheelers-2022-nhl-prospect-pool-rankings-no-1-buffalo-sabres/ and Dobber https://dobberprospects.com/team/buffalo-sabres/ rate Johnson's ceiling higher than Samuelsson.
NUMBER ONE PRIORITY get Ryan Johnson's name on a contract then Chychrun becomes a moot issue.
Jokiharju is playing much better as of late, with Johnson and Lyubushkin, the Sabres would have six solid NHL defensemen.

Looking into the future, Jakob becomes a free agent at the end of the 2025 season.
I would imagine he still keeps in touch with Kelly and Matthew Pegula, he may sign to play with Buffalo out of friendship.
Personally, I think when Tim Murray drafted Nylander over Chychrun, it was the last straw and Terry fired Tim and Dan.

Finally, the future is really bright.
The top line and kid line are on pace to 144 goals/303pts and 66 goals/184 pts. LOL 210 goals is only 22 less than the entire team scored last year.
Power's performance has been remarkable. He is quietly becoming another defensive anchor for Buffalo, playing nearly 24 min/gm with a +11 rating.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is way ahead of Ullmark at the same age.

Savoie will almost certainly be wearing Blue and Gold next year, while Kulich, Rosen, Ostlund, Kisakov, Rousek, Nadeau, Poltapov, and Lindgren do not have Matthew's ceiling they could all be in the NHL in two years.

Sabres are going to be a very Dangerous team in 2yrs. If they choose to they will be able to just steam roll teams. 4 lines of Speed, Forechecking and scoring. OtherTeams will have to focus on who they stop. A few tweaks and this team could explode.

Are we ABSOLUTELY SURE that the compensatory pick travels with the player rights? That doesn't seem right to me.

The whole theory behind giving a team unable to sign a first-round pick a second-round pick as compensation is because the drafting team invested a first in the player. That's not true of the team that trades a second for him.

We shouldn’t want Chychrun anyways

He doesn’t play well on the right side
He’s a bad fit for us, period
