Wow thats awful for the leafs.
Domi is terrible and worth maybe a 3rd at deadline prices and the difference between holl and murphy isnt even Robertson, let alone the rest

Terrible? On pace for 57 points this year on a truly terrible Blackhawks team. Just trolling if you really think he's terrible. This return is a lot but need to factor in the OP is asking the hawks to retain on Murphy for 4 years. Never going to happen but i'll entertain the hypothetical because that is what this site is. Because of that retention I don't think the hawks do this. We'll retain on domi, not murphy.

Yes, hes terrible. Hes shooting 150% his career average getting 1st power play time with kane and very soft zone starts while still being abysmal defensively. Lol 57 points, he got less last year when he was playing better.
And again, the difference betwee murphy and holl is nothing close to that. They can simply sign holl for less than even retained murray and keep the futures. This a horrendous trade for the leafs on every level

You know Murphy isn't better than Holl this year. So the Leafs are acquiring a 2.9m Murphy for three years. Yea that's good but Leafs do have Brodie, Liljegren, and Timmins at RHD next year (maybe even Holl).
Even if Domi is better than Kerfoot this year (which is debatable)....certainly the gap isn't 1st, Robertson and Niemela.
Why do Leaf fans hate their own?

Ya, the retention is why I added Niemelä and a 1st instead of no Niemelä and like a 3rd.

retention has to make sense for both teams, paying another team to retain on a near 30 already slow defensive defender is a terrible idea

Here are all of the 2023 free-agent right defensemen with more than 19 minutes Time on Ice so far this year: (arranged by ToI; age as of next season's start)

Klingberg: age 31, 30 games so far this season, 11 pts, -21 (!), 21:41, $7 million cap hit
Holl: age 31, 35 games so far this season, 5 pts, +7, 21:25, $2 million cap hit
Dumba: age 29, 34 games so far this season, 9 pts, -2 (on a good team), 21:01, $6 million cap hit
Jensen: age 33, 37 games so far this season, 14 pts, +9, 20:51, $2.5 million cap hit
Mayfield: age 31, 36 games so far this season, 8 pts, +4, 20:24, $1.45 million cap hit

I know that plus-minus is a coarse statistic, but I'll bet that the high-level "analytics" will bear out our impression that Holl holds his own on the defensive side of his assignments

Mew pal and Jared talk mounds of dung on everyone's Leafs post just be aware for future.

So if it's a big challenge getting Murphy maybe pick up Domi for a bit less easily plays top 6 or centres the third line huge addition, very similar to bunting but probably more skilled, smart player, on Tavares marners wing it's huge.

Holl is finally growing on me I can't believe it and by that I mean bolstering the third pairing, I still like a top 4 D.

Cheers

Please watch how Holl plays the boards for a 6'5'' player and no -21 is still a terrible thing even if you are on a terrible team but if it were all stats you might say Holl and Klingberg are comparables so, you're not arguing sides, you're making points so you should put more context to comments when you're just dropping stat sheets, you can make more than a few conclusions from a stat sheet.

Smh.

While I don't agree with you opinion, if Holl is close to as good as Murphy, why would he agree to sign for so much less than Murphy?
