Isles are not touching Barrie, and your reasoning doesn’t make sense when the Isles have a better PP QB in Dobson. Mayfield is not available, if he is at the deadline then it would be a 2023 1st.

Barrie is a $4.5M RD3 on the Islanders with an extra year of term. Schaefer's an interesting prospect, but it's just not good value for them - especially considering they're in the playoff hunt this year, and that the biggest issue they've been seeing has been a step back in defense compared to the last few years. Trading a DFD like Mayfield for a more offensively oriented Tyson Barrie isn't going to solve that problem.

I wouldn't consider him totally a negative asset but to ask a team to take his contract for next year would probably cost a bit.

I was told by an islanders fan not long ago that they felt Barrie would be a good add for the powerplay. This type of deal would only happen if the islanders were out of it come playoff time. Schaefer is a really good prospect in my opinion. Also they would still need someone to play on the right side as they don't have any ready prospects and no guarantee they can sign someone.

The isles have two top pair D on the right side (Dobson and Pulock). They’ll have no problem signing a bottom pair D for much cheaper than 4.5 mill
