Okay so you’re back to just actively making the team worse both short and long term.

You’re going backwards. Do you just not know who Brandon carlo is? Are you a bruins fan? I don’t get this series. Seems like this should be called “way to torpedo the bruins v11”

Detroit declines.

Carlo would be 3rd pair behind Seider and Hronek and we're not trading a top line forward with retention for a 3rd pair defender.

RD is not a big enough need to trade Bert for.

Can someone explain why Detroit wants Carlo? In an ideal world, Detroit would have a better top pairing option with Seider, and Carlo is not that guy. Ideally for next season, Maata is resigned for 2nd pair, a mystery defenseman plays with Seider, and Chairot gets relegated to the third pair and top PK unit. Edvinsson will hopefully be ready (could he play with Seider, I am not so sure), and can play 3rd pairing with Chairot. There will be lots of options with Edvinsson, Johansen, Wallinder, Sebrango, and maybe Buium. Adding Carlo to that mix really is just depth that is either insurance for injuries, or a roadblock to rotating in youth that is close to ready, maybe.

I'd also like to add that Carlo is a fine defensive defenseman, but the Red Wings don't need that; Chairot has proven that Seider does not pair as well with that type of player. Over the course of one and a half seasons, Seider has looked his best with, possibly, Oesterle. Oesterle is a fringe NHLer who can move the puck and play ok defense. A more dynamic player is neded; one who can compliment Seider by allowing Seider to not be the only guy moving the puck from defense to offense AND also cover for Seider when he gets caught up ice.

I'd also mention Carlo is signed to a reasonable contract for a few more years, but the concussion history can make that a burden too.

Bertuzzi is not a top line player. He's managed over 50pt once in his career

He's been close to a point per game his last 6 years. He's played on the top line in Detroit for the same time. Ergo he's a top line player.

192/285 = .67... Thats not "close to a point per game his last 6 years"... Also a top line player on Detroit isn't really saying much, considering... Well, you know, it's Detroit.

Including this season he's played 7yrs....but sure let's just look at his last 6yrs. He has 192pt in 278gp. This isn't close to a point per game at all. Just because he plays on DET top line doesn't mean he's a "top line player" around the rest of the NHL. Travis Boyd plays in Arizona's top line. Does that make him a top line player too?

He is a top line player in Detroit, that is the only thing that counts!

This ACGM is asking Detroit to give up THEIR top line winger, with retention, for a player that would be THIRD PAIR in Detroit.

That is what makes this offer a stupid one. Everything else is utterly irrelevant.

This is not a good argument. Bertuzzi is the definition of a late bloomer. Should we judge Marchand by his first 7 seasons?

Could if you want. In his first 7 full seasons He put up 50+ four times, 60+ twice and 80+ once. He also had a Stanley Cup to his name.

LMAO. It's not irrelevant. Just because a guy plays on your top line doesn't make him a top line player. Just like because Carlo would be your 3RD doesn't mean he's a 3rd. Taylor Hall is a 3LW, so I guess Bertuzzi is worth more based on your logic.

I didn't say full seasons. Nice try though. He had 289 points in his first 454 games which comes out to .636 ppg. So yeah they're very similar so far. And also Bertuzzi's actually been compared to Marchand by actual NHL GMs so...

I dont put much stock in a players "first season" when they split time between the AHL & NHL. That's why I look at first full season, but to each their own. I also couldn't give a **** less if an NHL GM compared Bertuzzi to Marchand. In Boston, Bertuzzi would be a 3rd liner.

First off how convenient for you that you "don't consider the first season". Second; How surprising you don't consider what GMs think because you know better right? And third and most importantly; if you think Debrusk or Zacha are better than Bertuzzi then you're saying more about your lack of good judgement than you think you are.

Bertuzzi, when healthy, is around .7 to .8 ppg. He developed later, and was used mostly as a 3rd or 4th line grinder his first few seasons. Bertuzzi is defensively good, and had slick hands(I say had because he injured them both this season so who knows how long the road to normalcy is). Bertuzzi makes his linemates better and few grinders in tbe league have his skillset.

I dont think there is a team in the league that doesn't have him in their top 6. Even if he were only .5ppg, he makes those around him infinitely better. One thing to consider when looking at point totals is his teammates. Up until Seider last season, the only defenseman who could reliably and competently move the puck to the forwards was Hronek. Frans Nielsen was 2nd line center. Adam Erne once lead the team in goals. It makes a huge difference when one player has little to no help. And Bertuzzi drives play, but he pushes good players to be better. He is not able to make average players better. Not even McDavid can do that (see Kassian or Puljarvi).

Point is, Bertuzzi is top 6. There are maybe a dozen players in the league who do it like Bertuzzi...Marchand, the Tkachuks, etc.

1. I'd do the same for any player

2. GM's rely heavily on scouts for comps and most comps are stylistic, not what a player will become production wise.

3. DeBrusk is on pace for a 30/30 season while being a 200ft player and playing all situations. Zacha playing at a 50pt pace and has a little snake bitten in goals. Round it out with Marchand, Pastrnak and Hall (Whose playing on the 3rd line) and ya, Bertuzzi is a 3rd liner in Boston.

I am afraid you don't understand hockey. You obviously have not watched Bertuzzi play. Bertuzzi plays a similar game as Marchand, but nobody can match that level of douche. Are you just looking at Stas in NHL 19 or something?
