Description
I don't think that it creates a good team atmosphere to abandon hope on a season, but IF our new GM decides to pull the plug on 2022-2023, this is a possible blueprint for improving our draft positions at minimal cost.

Main trade made on January 2, with the second trade being made as soon as possible after that. This assumes, of course, that the Maple Leafs want Klingberg in the first place. Quite a few Toronto fans don't seem sold on the idea.

As you can see, I'm not as convinced as some of my esteemed Ducks colleagues that Klingberg will get us a 2023 first-round draft pick outright.

Benefits to Toronto: (1) Klingberg with 50% retention for Kerfoot is cap-neutral. (2) Toronto gets a veteran RhD while Reilly (and perhaps Brodie) are on the IR list. (3) Instead of giving up a first-round draft pick outright, Maple Leafs move back one full round and lose a third.

Benefits to Winnipeg: The Jets get a quality middle-6 forward who plays a lot of PK for half his cap hit and virtually no actual money without giving up a high draft pick outright but trading back two rounds in 2024, not 2023. (I think that Kerfoot is a superior alternative to Barron and Jonsson-Fjallby and anyone else on the third line at LW.)

Kerfoot likely doesn't waive for Winnipeg and there is no reason for the Jets to give up a 2nd to help Toronto with their cap issues

Leafs don't really have any cap issues. They have had so much LTIR happen this year. They are in a good spot.

They’re not giving up a 2nd to help TOR with cap problems. They’re giving up a 2nd for a quality middle 6 fwd and a 4th.

Kerfoot, especially with how he is playing this year. Isn't worth a 2nd as a rental. A 3rd or 4th maybe to someone other than Winnipeg, but a 2nd is a large overpayment.

Are you not paying attention today? They're not giving up a second; they're exchanging a second for a fourth that is likely to be significantly higher in the round. And you should know better than me or my esteemed colleague @Jah1722 whether he's an improvement on Barron and Jonsson-Fjallby and Harkins and the other bottom-6 LWs you have.

This is an Anaheim ACGM, not a Toronto one.

Right. He's not an improvement on anything the Jets currently have and not worth moving or "exchanging" a 2nd for.
