Description
I know this is unrealistic af and most people would complain about the outgoing draft picks, but I think we have enough prospects and core guys on the team & in the system to handle trades like these. Also, without extensions I wouldn’t make any of these deals.

The Bertuzzi deal nets a top end prospect and an upgrade in elite form with Meier coming with an extension in place.

I don’t see Vrana returning this season so, adding an elite scoring winger like Timo seemed necessary if we are to contend with the big dogs.

Copp has underwhelmed as 2C. O’Reilly is a bonafide 2-way 1/2C with strong chemistry between he and Perron could make that second line prolific. Reasonable extension in place as well.

Adding Chychrun rounds out the d-core and provide insurance next year if Maatta doesn’t return and with how reasonable Jakob’s contract is, it is conceivable Maatta is re-signed if Edvinsson isn’t ready for the big leagues next year.

Meier's QO is $10M, he's not taking less than that and if a team doesn't qualify him, he'll get top deal as a UFA. There's no incentive for him to sign that deal on a new team.

I could see him getting close to $9m but his qualifying offer provides zero indication of what the AAV will be on his next contract anyhow.

I could think of two incentives on signing an extension; Security and an 8th year. But I do agree, he’d max out his AAV by signing an extension in the offseason.

I agree. I was banking on a continued lackluster season from ROR and tried to get a little creative with the pieces.

Lol. I would imagine it would take at least a 24’ 1st rounder considering the teams that would be most willing to attach a 23’ pick to a deal may not have the cap space available to facilitate a deal.

I attached another pick and Suter that could be moved for as high as a 2nd round pick in a corresponding deal as well. Hanas is a nice prospect, realistically a low C+ or high B.

Yeah, I honestly couldn’t see the Wings giving up Kasper nor our 23’ pick for a 31 year old on an expiring contract having an underwhelming season.

1 - Dude, ROR was NHL Player of the Week last week. His lackluster start ended about a month ago.

2 - Opposing team cap space is not the Blues' concern. If they trade him (which is a huge if), it starts with a 23 1st.

3 - Attaching a player for consignment isn;t getting anyone anywhere with Armstrong. And while Hanas may be a mildly interesting B-/C+ prospect, the Blues are quite flush with scoring wingers.

In other words, the offer above isn't even in the ballpark. You'd need to give stuff they want, not stuff you want to get rid of.

I’m not disagreeing with you. And my trade isn’t a prediction by any means.

I could absolutely see a team meeting an asking price of a 2023 1st and a decent prospect for him; it just won’t come from Detroit.

He is a much better player than his numbers would indicate and the Blues in their entirety are much better than what they’ve produced thus far.

The reality of O’Reilly is he is on pace to put up 37 points this year, that is assuming he earns player of the week a few more times before seasons end…

The reality of O’Reilly is he is 31 and it doesn't make sense for Detroit to give 2 picks and a good prospect, the timing just isn't right.

Your trading away every 1st and most of the 2nd rd picks they have to trade. If something doesn't work out as planned Detroit is starting the rebuild over.

Benn: $9.5M AAV
Seguin: $9.85M AAV
Heiskanen: $8.45M AAV
Hintz: $8.45M AAV
Robertson: $7.75M AAV

With the amount of money that Dallas has locked up in the 5 players above, they are going to need ELC players that can be strong contributors in this offense. Stankoven by himself is an extremely high price to pay for a guy that's going to be a UFA after the season. Add in the 1st Round Pick & the fact that goal scoring really isn't much of an issue for the Stars right now & I don't see Dallas entertaining a move like this.

If they elect to trade away a(nother) 1st Round Pick, I've gotta think it's for a top-4 RD for their blueline; their biggest area of need through 22 games this season.

Considering Dallas is in the market for a top 6 forward. What are your interpretations of what a deal would look like for Bertuzzi and/or what assets do you expect are available from DAL?

It was tough finding a blue chip prospect that Bert could net us, I figured I’d go with the tiniest one available, which doesn’t necessarily fit the Yzerman m.o. but figured he was the most realistic to get, given what is out there to be had, potentially.

If they do pursue a top-6 like Bertuzzi, I’d expect them to look at something centered around a future 1st Round pick or their 2022 1st Rounder, Lian Bichsel & go from there.

Other pieces I could see being added to the deal (though likely not the centerpiece of the deal) would be guys like Denis Gurianov, Jacob Peterson, Matej Blumel, Artem Grushnikov (I’d personally keep Grushnikov, but I you gotta give value to get value), Christian Kyrou, and other non-1st Round Picks.

I truly do believe that Dallas has enough pieces to get a deal for Bertuzzi done without losing one of Bourque or Stankoven, it’s just dependent on what a team like Detroit would be looking for.
