Why do i keep seeing Sabres fans on here try to ship out Rosen?

Also, i know we’re interested in Chychrun, but idk how it makes sense for us
We can’t afford to pay him & Power & Dahlin long term
So are we just gonna turn around & flip him then?
I don’t get the thinking there

Because he is a legit top 4 D, versatile, not yet 25 years old, signed for almost three years less than 5 million. Also, if you don't know, he is a good friend of the owners family. Maybe it makes sense. I don't know what deal he'll earn in three years, but it won't be soon.

And by that time the Cap should be going up. Jesus even with the new extensions to Samuelsson and Tage the Sabres are still almost 12m under the floor next year. Cap should not be a issue for the Sabres and should not hinder them from improving this team.

Dahlin will only cost 3-4 mil more than his current cap hit. Cap will raise much more than that. Already Samuelsson and Thompson deals are bargain. And there is always buyout possibility of Skinner's last year or two to free more cap space if needed. Sabres are in good shape cap wise.

Hahahahahahaha. Now that is funny.

Dahlin will be the highest paid D-man in the league when he signs his next contract. He's on pace for 93 points and could be the 1st D-man to hit 100 points since Leetch in 1991-92.

But we are talking going from 6 to 9-10mil cap hit. Not from ELC to same range, which may happen to Power

There's no chance he's taking that.

If you know that, don't you think his agent knows that?

He's going to sign for $12mm/yr+

You may be right about that. It will be a fun race.

EDIT: Speaking of Karlsson. When he signed his contract it was 14.5% of the cap. Let's say the cap is $85mm next year, that = $12.3mm/yr. If he waits until 2024 to sign it and the cap is $88mm, that equals $12.73mm/year.

karlson had many 70 points season under his belt by then and was signed as a UFA. Dahlin wont be the highest paid player in the league. if he keeps the pace he is at, i expect something closer to 10 million than 12 if he sign this year. just my prediction.

He won't be the highest paid player. That will probably be Matthews.
He will be the highest paid D-man though...if he signs a 8yr deal. The cap is going to explode and he won't want to be looking grossly underpaid in 4-5-6 years. But, I guess we'll see...

we will see for sure! depends on the tear mlike you said. the fact that he is still an RFA will probably make the price a little bit lower too. the fact that player like Makar signed for 9 millions make me believe that dahlin wont end up being the highest paid. i also have a hunch that even though it is believed the cap will rise a lot, GM's are carefull, we all know what happened with covid and how it screwed team like the leaft who paid players with the cap increase in my mind. (not saying that somethibg like covid might happen again, but things like negotiating new CBA, bad economy, etc... might affect the cap and i think teams will be a bit more careful now.) but like you said, cant wait to see it!

We won’t be in good Cap shape if Dahlin is making $12ish mil and Power & Chychrun are making $8mil +

That would be horrible Cap management

Thinking Dahlin is only gonna cost 9-10mil is very wishful thinking
He will 100% cost more than $10mil per

We don't know. Is he worth 12 mil ? We hope so.
Is he gonna demand 8x12 ? Maybe, don't know.
Is he willing to take less in order to create more competetive roster ? Nothing idicates, that it wouldn't happen.

And nothing indicates that it would happen
If you’re gonna fall back on this “anything can happen” type nonsense, then let’s just end the convo here- bc there’s nowhere constructive to go from there
I’d rather talk about what’s most likely to happen in reality,
and not in some dream scenario that worked in a video game

You saying that Dahlin possibily signing more team friendly deal is "anything can happen" ? He signed 3x6 bridge deal, where he could easily demand 8x8 and Sabres would pay him that.

I think Dahlin gets 8x10 since it will be hard to get a far larger cap hit than Makar, Fox, etc. Unless he wins the Norris, he can’t exactly back up that he requires a larger payout than former Norris winners.

Makar got his $9.5mm deal before winning the Norris. Before scoring 28 goals in a season. He got his contract after 44GP 8G 36A 44pts +17 season.
Fox signed his contract after, yes, winning the Norris, but Dahlin is so far way outpacing Fox's Norris season (55GP 5G 42A +19)

Dahlin's pace this year: 81GP 32G 61A 93Pts +36

They aren't good comparables.

He signed a bridge deal so he could cash in on this coming one

He’s over a point per game right now- as a defenseman
No agent in his right mind is gonna let him leave tens of millions on the table

It’s a nice thought by you, but extremely unlikely

If it happens, then great
But projecting it to happen is crazy, bc it’s not typical

Salaries go up every year
And Dahlin is showing that he’s in that class
He’s likely to at least be a Norris finalist (so far)

I still highly doubt he’ll make much more, if at all, 10 per year.

Even if it’s purely in order to help the team as a whole.

$10 per year is gonna be the minimum, not the max
He could easily get $12 or more
