Doesn't matter if you're down at the salary cap floor, the fact that there IS a salary cap floor in the first place should serve as a warning that if money is spent carelessly, especially long-term, cap space will dry up faster and next thing you know you've got a non-playoff team that's capped out. Look at Columbus, Philadelphia, San Jose, I'm still not entirely sold Seattle will make the playoffs either
1) You are new to our cap space. We have a great cap situation and the cap will go up.
2) Niederreiter and Marchment signed very reasonable contracts, not for 8 years and not for 8-9 million.
Nino signed with Nashville for 4M x 2Y, we could give him 5-6M x 2-3Y.
Marchment signed with Dallas for 4,5M 4Y, we could give him 5-5,5M x 4-5Y. We really will have a ton of space for all this and there is still a lot left. We only have one anchor Skinner contract that we can reasonably buyput in 3-4 years if need be.
We just have too soft and the same type of team. Here you need a balance of skill and some physicality and defensive play.
