So this is what it feels like to have a top 10 Center

Description
I may be showing my age, but since I've been a hockey fan the Canadiens have never had a Center that finished the season as a top 30 scorer in the league.

Nick Suzuki is currently tied for 5th for all Centers in the league and is tied for 10th in scoring in general. It feels really good. If the season ended today, the Habs are holding down that last wildcard spot in the east, which feels even better.

There is probably 1 trade the Habs should make, for a RHD. I wonder if/when the Blues declare as sellers. We should go and get Justin Faulk if we can.

I doubt the Blues make the playoffs. ROR just looks "done". The goaltending is suspect. You can't win without quality Center minutes & Goaltending in this league.

Have any evidence to back up your wild claims?

This is very funny. You want claim evidence right after making a bunch of silly claims that show you don't really watch the Blues very closely.

1 - ROR had a slump, for whatever reason. He certainly has not looked done the last five games, so the slump is pretty much over.

2 - In no way, shape or form has the Blues goaltending been suspect. Binnington has played very well, the team in front of him not so much. Did you know that the Blues have kicked, gloved or batted SEVEN goals past Binnington in his first nine starts? Or that the team has allowed a slew of back door goals? Or that he has been very important to all five of their wins? Binnington is probably the last player to blame for the losing streak on that entire team.

3 - Ehh, ROR isn't the only quality C on the Blues. Even without him, they'd have a strong 1-2 punch in Thomas and Schenn.

Long story short, the Blues will be fine and almost certainly will make the playoffs. Everyone shoveling dirt on them with 70 games to go is fooling themselves.

Heh. You are getting waaaaay ahead of yourself here. To pry Faulk out of St. Louis would require an overpay. He's not going anywhere, and certainly not for a weak sauce offer.

I definitely am getting ahead of myself!

I appreciate the response!

Don't you think if the Blues are re-tooling, they might head for a youth movement and take 1-2 years to get back into the playoff picture? Faulk will be 31 next season and in the context where the Blues do take a year or two to re-tool, he'll be 32-33 when you "really need him".

I doubt you replace Tarasenko and ROR when you trade them and those are not the kind of pieces you add in free agency.

IF we trade Faulk we are looking at a 3-5 year rebuild. Simply because Defensemen take a long time to mature and the 2023 draft is very forward heavy. 2024 is D heavy but those will take at least 2-3 years to become good players. Basically if we trade Faulk we better be trading Krug, ROR, Tarasenko, Schenn, Saad, and Barbashev before we trade him. Our retool will turn into a complete rebuild if we trade anyone of Parayko or Faulk.

Alright. I hope you're right. I like the Blues and I catch the games when I can.

I've always believed that you can understand what a team is gonna do that season by game 20. The only team to really disprove that in the past decade has been the Blues the year they won the cup.

Not sure about that! With Thomas & Kyrou you have some great pieces. The return you get if you liquidate this year could set you up, especially if you target prospects close to breaking into the NHL.

Barron, Struble, Hutson from the Habs for example are all young defensemen who look like they could make the NHL next season.

They looked much more like themselves the last 3-4 games, and especially so last night in Vegas. That was a character W.

Thomas and Kyrou are only 2 pieces and while they are good they are not elite. To be a contender you need Top pairing Defensemen. Not many teams have those prospects and are willing to trade them. Those prospect you listed are good but I only see Barron as being a 2nd pairing D-men at his ceiling. Again if we trade Faulk we are taking a considerable step back and we don't have the means of replacing him. Any prospect we get will take at least 2-3 years to get to Faulk's level. Better to keep Faulk as a top 4 D man and trade ROR, Tarasenko, Barbahsev and restock the pipeline. It's easier to replace forwards than it is Defensemen. Plus our prospect pool is already heavily skewed toward wingers and centers. We have no good defensemen in the pipeline. Also defensemen take the longest to mature and are some of the hardest pieces to find. That's why I believe the blues will not trade their only good right side defensemen if they are looking to compete in 2 years. IT makes no sense

What would Faulk cost? Would the Chiarot trade from last year be a good comparable?

No because Faulk has term that is reasonable since it ends when he's 35. His game hopefully means he has longevity
