It's not. It's a late 1st, less than a season of a fading but okay 3C, a buried 4th liner who isn't good, a prospect speedily careening toward bust status despite having size and speed, a 2nd pushed off three years and a 3rd. That doesn't even move the needle without retention or Acciari.

I’m not saying it’s perfect but I think it’s close if it’s reworked and one of those seconds is lysell or a 2024 first

Lol, what? You know people have actually watched him play this year, right? Not a shot the blues get anywhere close to that.

Apparently didn't watch tonight. Or the other night. Do you actually think a short slump just strips all his value?

Well, he’s a rental, so ya. Kinda.

Also, i just don’t think he’ll get unprecedented trade value as a rental. Go find a comp for that. Good luck,.

First off: let’s say that’s what it was…what sort of rental playing like O’Reilly gets a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? I feel like you’re pretty out of touch with the rental market if you’re scoffing at that.

Now: who’s that 3C in this trade? You might be thinking of someone else.
I had completely given up on Beecher when he was at michigan. Just didn’t think he had it. He’s looked pretty good as a pro despite the points not being there. I might wait for a sample size of more than 20 professional games before making statements such as yours.

Again, that 2nd is three years from now. Pushing it back that far lowers the trade pull that pick has.

Smith is the 3rd liner I spoke of. And again, Beecher stock has dropped a bit since he was drafted. It's not just me saying that, all the prospect gurus say the same thing.

Smith is not a center.

Okay, so you can decide not to believe in trade comps. Go ahead and expect unprecedented value. I’m going to live in reality.

You understand the difference between what I would expect to happen and what it would take to get it done, right? You keep saying 1st 2nd 3rd, but you ignore the two cap dumps, Acciari, retention, pushing the 2nd off three years, etc. These things all cost something in reality, dude. So in reality this is not the amazing windfall you think it is. If you need to put six pieces to grab someone's captain++, you're doing it way wrong.

Interesting take on Beecher. He's only played in 23 AHL games, so not sure how he's speedily careening towards bust.

Well, it's been three years, during which he went from an A- prospect to maybe a B prospect, had a season ending injury and seems to be having his hockey IQ and offensive limitations exposed a bit in the minors. Could he still be a decent player? Sure. But now folks are talking about being a bottom 6er instead of being their 2C of the future. Unfair or not, he has slipped some in pretty much everyone's eyes and the clock is now ticking for him to be NHL ready (which he is not yet). So yeah, he hasn't been moving in the right direction and if he isn't ready to step into the lineup next season, the b word is gonna get thrown around a lot in B-town.

Smith isn’t a cap dump.

The way O’reilly is playing, a first with retention is a very fair price.

2nd and 3rd to take Wagner, with his burried cap hit being like 50 bucks seems beyond reasonable.

1 - Funny stuff.

2 - Dude, the way ROR is currently playing is at his typical level. The slump is over, try to keep up.

3 - Heh. Okay, man. I'm sure the Blues will send you their captain++ for a bunch of stuff they don't want any day now.

1. That’s the best you got? Be better.
2. He was declining last year. Try not to be a shameless homer.
3. I’m saying I expect things to happen in a similar fashion to recent history. You’re suggesting something that’s never happened before.

Good luck

1 - Why would I use the best I've got on light work. They literally cannot afford the trade without dumping a fading, overpaid UFA 3rd liner's cap. What do you call it?

2 - No, he had long COVID early in the season, then returned to normal service when recovered and was the team's best player in the playoffs.

3 - Ehh where did I suggest anything other than this offer is trash that would never be accepted?

1. They literally could.
2. Homer
3. Yes. Saying this offer is trash is a pretty good indicator that you’re about delusional when it comes to understanding the rental market. It’s pretty easy, you could probably just google the last few NHL trade deadlines and see what goes on.

1 - Look at the cap remaining figure above. This isn't hard, man.
2 - Hilarious. Ignore all facts and run to ad hominem. All sizzle and no steak, Winger (and honestly, not much sizzle, either).
3 - Muh huh. You go ahead and show us all the trades where it required six pieces to grab a 1C/captain with max retention (not to mention the two dumps and the draft pick pushed off three years). We'll wait.

There aren’t any. It’s usually a first and a third + some kicker. Something around there. Usually it’s for someone playing better than O’rielly.

Is someone that said they don’t believe in comparables telling me I’m ignoring facts? Sheesh

Oh dear... the notion of comparables isn't a fact. Every situation is different. And if they really were a thing all trades would be the same. No good ones, no bad ones. Comparables only really apply with stuff like retention value and 7th Dmen.
