Why would Nashville do this?

McDonagh's contract is too long. Puljujarvi for Tolvanen straight up would be of interest to me, at least.

Nice to see something quite different for a change. I think Preds takes a small L here value-wise, but given they wouldn't have to deal with McDonagh's longer contract, this could turn out favorably for them.

Way i see it,

McDonagh hasnt played very good in Nashville. Not sure if its age catching up or hynes lack of a system. Ekholm didnt do good at rhd so now weve got josi, ekholm, and mcd at lhd giving us a 6 million dollar 3rd pairing dman. Barrie isnt great defensively but he can atleast bring some offense. Retention is there to balance things out some. Barrie only has 1 more season after this compared to the 3 McDonagh has. 1 season if Barrie would be easier to jettison in the offseason vs 3 seasons of McDonagh especially if he continues to play bad in Nashville. So for nashville, it restores a ld/rd balance and gives them a little more flexibility in the offseason while getting them out of a contracg ive already soured on and think will only get worse.

Puljujarvi and tolvanen are just a change of scenery swap that i think both players could use.
