Description

pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading says the Leafs may be open to an 8-year contract extension with Michael Bunting in order to bring down the AAV.
Though no discussions have taken place just yet, Bunting's camp may be open to 8 years as well due to him already being 27 years old.
Similar to Tampa Bay signing Nick Paul 7 years at $3.15 million cap hit. 3.75x8 like i called a while back

I'd be surprised if he's that close to Paul. I get what you're saying, but this is a guy who had 60pts next year. 3.75mil isn't in the ballpark

I mean bunting just had nearly double the point production as Nick Paul. I cant see their caps being that close unless Bunting crashes and burns this season in which case why would toronto want to do an 8 year contract.

So your argument is that he will willingly short his long term earning potential by taking a contract that requires 2 extra years of work to get the amount of pay he should get and also be older when he hits ufa thus limiting his potential earnings on the next contract?

Jarnkrok just signed a 4 year contract worth 8.1 million at age 30 with toronto and hes never put up anything near buntings numbers. with inflation and rises in cap hed be able to get atleast another 10-15 million as long as he keeps playing decent. Even if he didnt play decent just means he could retire 2 years earlier with much less wear and tear on his body.
