Petry was suppose to be a cap dump with retained money neither happened. They got a 28 year old top4 D in Matheson with a good contract which is better than a few 2nd rounders which they have en masse. I had his return for a 2nd and a 3rd, ppl all said he was a cap dump.
Matheson is a better return as he's needed for minutes and they'll be able to get better picks down the line around 2024-25 with the cap increasing to 87-88 million in 2 years. They traded Petry at his lowest value for a player in his prime!

When Petry said he wanted out some Montreal fans had him going to Detroit for:
2022 1st
2023 1st
Raymond
Seider
bertuzzi
Bertuzzi and a 1st
Zadina and a 1st
Hronek and a 1st

Those are just a few of them. It got bad enough that some Montreal fans were apologizing for just how absurd some of offers were.

not to mention Habs fans were also selling way higher on guys like Chariot and Lehkonen than what they brought in. Like people were literally saying Knies and a 1st for chariot from the leafs or Girard and a 1st for Lehkonen etc etc etc.
Now we get this revisionism like crazy, they just cant be happy that some dumb sucker in florida gave them 100x chariot's worth and they didnt get hosed on a lehkonen trade

Literally no one except trolls had those pieces coming back, except maybe the 2023 1st (which was delusional) and Hronek who's a worse defenseman than Petry is.

Wings fans on the other hand were demanding the 1st overall pick, Caufield or Suzuki ATTACHED to Petry.

Guess they were even more wrong than Habs fans.

I realize that and its why I said some Montreal fans. The 10yr year age gap alone makes Hronek more valuable. Hronek hasn't even peaked yet and Petry is only going downhill. The only ACGMs by Detroit fans were in response to the absolutely ridiculous returns being made by SOME Montreal fans and were not serious. There might have been a Wings fan willing to give up more than 3rd to get Petry.

There were some pretty serious counter-proposals as well. One that was proposing Suzuki + Petry (Suzuki being the sweetener) for Niederbach iirc.

Anyways, just saying that other fanbases valuations of Habs players are often worse than Habs fans valuations.

Both can have bad contract what

He's their top left D til Guhle matures which may be sooner rather than later. Guhle has been unbelievable in the preseason!

Jersey fans. They literally said Guhle/Caufield wasnt enough for the 2OA this past offseason because Anderson was attached, multiple Jersey fans said this in the same thread! That is just pure delusion. Guhle is looking like a potential top pair D, he just lead the preaseason in D goals, hits like a truck, fast, poised and Caufield lead the preseason in PP goals while off a 49 goal pace in the 2nd half for a pick in a weak draft wheres everyone from Wright to Slafkovsky has looked quite average with a lot of uncertainty.

I'd argue Habs fans are the most realistic here. Caufield isnt even worth Nick Robertson according to Leafs fans. Its bonkers.

Everyone says the Leafs and Habs fanbases are the worst fanbases on here, but it's just a numbers thing since there are a lot more of them. Per capita, I don't think any fanbase is worse than the Red Wings on here.
